N26 Tuner Running Hot. Is that Normal? Using afe scorcher

I just installed an afe scorcher module (on an N26 F30 328) and it works great but I've noticed the module itself gets really hot during use. Is this normal for these types of tuners (afe, bms, etc)?

I just want to make sure I don't have something defective that will cause major problems.

Everything appears to be working great and quite a bit more power but I am definitely a bit concerned as this is my first tuner chip I've ever installed.

Isn't the module mounted in the engine compartment?

I was wondering this same thing. Are you going out after driving and popping your hood to feel the box? I have my JB4 mounted under one of the rain guards; that would be a real PITA to check

Yes it is mounted in the engine compartment. I don't think I would do that on a normal basis however after just installing it, I decided to pop the hood after a drive to make sure everything looked fine (cables tucked away, etc). That's when I touched it and noticed it was extremely hot.

So naturally my curiosity is if this should be the case or if something is off here and I have a module that's going to have a meltdown.

Just because something is in the engine compartment doesn't mean it has to run extremely hot to the touch.

Ah, ok. Anything in that area that could provide some residual heat? Charge pipe? Brake master cylinder / booster?

Currently on the wheel well behind the headlight. Everything else is cool to the touch in the area except that module.

As do I and I'd surmise most JB4 owners do, but it's not hard to get to. Takes about as much time taking off the rain guard to check it as it does to double pop open the hood.

That said, mine's only been installed a day, lol. Still...

So far have not been able to get in contact with afe and they haven't responded to an email yet.

Does anybody have an idea if these things are supposed to get super hot during use? I figured for what the purpose of the chip is (intercepts and alters signals), it shouldn't be something that gets to that kind of an operating temperature. Forgive my ignorance if this is obvious as this is my first attempt with one of these. The install is correct and it is otherwise working fine.

I just want to make sure that I don't have a defective chip that is going to have a meltdown soon.

If it is really hot, you might need to exchange the unit.
