Lots of ignorant comments here. Sad to see on here.
I've owned a Rosslyn-built E90 328i for over 5 years, and it's been rock solid. Never any rattles or any build-quality issues. Some people don't seem to realize that it's more about the brand/model and assembly process design than where it's being assembled. I've seen some well built cars from Germany/USA/Japan/Mexico/Korea, as well as shitty ones from the same countries. |

Case in point. I was in Oxford, UK in late 2016. That's where the Minis are made.
There were so many German-speaking guys around that I thought I was in Munich! |

Lots of ridiculously uninformed comments here. Building a car in Mexico, S Africa, USA, Germany, doesn't really matter much as long as the processes are being followed. Anytime you open a new plant or start rolling a new car off the line at an existing plant there will be issues. Happens no matter what. BMW like most other major brands has process controls and standards that must be met. If a plant in Mexico doesn't meet them it will get fixed.
Lots of vehicles are built in Mexico. When someone says "these cars were great until they started making them in the US" (Or Mexico, insert any country here) since then the "unions" or "American" or "Mexican" workers just don't care and they are built like crap. Such comments are uninformed and ridiculous. I had a friend tell me this about the Accord recently, that he saw one at an auto show with a trim issue and that it was a sign of things to come with them now building them in the US, he failed to realize his previous three Accords were built in the same plant. What he saw was a pre-production car at an auto show that had a single piece of door trim peeling. Dumb people are gonna be dumb, the amount of similar comments here is truly disappointing. Someone mentioned early on is the X3 still built here? The answer is yes, still built in S Carolina but X3 demand is going up, dramatically and to keep up with demand BMW is deploying additional resources to its production.

FCA builds garbage, as Car and Driver recently said, it feels like more engineering went into the air vents on the Audi TT then the entire Dodge Dart. (probably close to true )

I interact with Plant 10 on a regular basis (USA).
While the workforce is comprised of mostly local talent, the management and engineering teams maintain a strong German contingent. Regardless of plant locale, the processes and culture are still distinctly "German". Every manufacturing plant on the planet faces its own issues from time-to-time - location doesn't create "immunity" to that condition. Strong management at both the corporate and plant levels are the key to overcomming those issues. |

There are some random yet biased comments on here. I have toured several automotive plants, in particular, German manufacturers and quality starts with the design of the vehicle more so than where it is built.
Robots do most of the body in white assembly but the interior parts, lights, bumpers, etc are all done by trained staff. As long as the manufacturer trains and or designs a part to easily be installed then there should not be any fit or finish issues... Audi went the extra mile for their Mexico plant because it makes Q5's for the whole world and quality was the forefront of training. I am sure BMW will do the same for their plant in San Luis Potosi.... since BMW will be sourcing parts locally, now that is another issue...
