Pics of my new 2018 430xi GC (mods ideas needed)

This is my first BMW. Actually a 2er would make more sense for me since it's only me and my girlfriend in it most of time. 4er looks really big but it doesn't feel that big when driving so it's good. Leased it as a retired loaner. Packages included M sport, Premium, HUD, HK audio, active cruise control (which i don't think useful at all but the front end collision warning is good).

Nothing special here. Will do a couple of mods as below (already ordered and waiting for delivery):
1. Carbon mirror cap (M4 style) - installed, fit perfectly!
2. Carbon rear spoiler (M Performance style. Personally I think the M4 style is a bit too much) - fit was just OK, and it's bigger than I'd imagined and liked. The tips on both sides don't stick to the trunk very nicely... Hopefully it's not gonna fall off on highway... LOL
3. Maybe debadging the back? Not sure if it's worth hassle as I'd need to put them back on after 3 years.
4. Some codings to tune M4 ASD, mirror folding when lock, etc. Hopefully i don't screw it up. - Coding completed. M Performance logo in digital cluster and iDrive look cool, auto mirror folding and auto door unlock are 2 most useful functions!

Last but not least, ACS springs and spacers ordered and on the way!! Will get them installed next week, and post pics once done!

Negative, Ghost Rider. The M3/4 ASD is painfully obnoxious. I coded mine off because it was driving me crazy. IMHO the loud drone when holding your gear is WAY too loud and it honestly sounds like you are punishing your car. It sounds fake and ruins the experience imho.

BTW, the more I see the GC the more appealing it gets, congrats!

Suspension and wheel spacers will help fill in that gap.

Thanks! Well I think the stock setting (not sure if ASD is on by default) sounds good enough, especially in Sport mode. But you just need to try it until you know for sure what works best for you right?

In terms of suspension, what do you recommend? Like I said since it's a lease I am only considering spring sets instead of full suspension kit. Also are wheel spacers a must? Or can I just put the spring set on and call it a day?

It's on. Trust me, don't get the M3/4 ASD, it's horrible. I never got suspension on my 340i, but the Macht Schnell Sport Competition Springs, and Spacers work great in my M3.

No. It would have been better to get it dealer installed and the payments absorbed into the lease.... if they even allow that.

I've heard good things about H&R springs with B8s, I ordered mine and waiting for them to arrive so I'll post my input on ride quality later. Also if you're into it, you can consider getting tints as well!

Hey Zara, you are also in Chicago? Can you recommend some good auto shops for mods to me please? I only plan to get spring sets so not gonna get B8. I guess ppl who complained about H&R were those who only got spring sets as well? Have you also considered ACS or Dinan?

As to tints, I'll give it a pass...

I did some research on these forums on which springs to get, I don't remember exactly why I chose H&Rs over ACS or Dinan since it was already a few months ago since I've made my decision. But you can find a lot of good feedback here. A buddy of mine had just the H&R springs on his F30 without the B8s and his ride was very bouncy. I've sent you a PM with the shop I got my mods done at.

How about keeping F36 but changing the engine type to N55? Would you think that's a good idea? I saw some ppl do this and they said it sounds nice.

Maybe it will lower the payments as it increases residual at the end of the lease. Any mods on a leased car may not make sense especially if they're after market unless you intend on buying the car.

Yes that's why I'm only making slight cosmetic mods which could be easily returned to stock at lease end. But I'm really thinking hard about getting the lowering spring set as it looks too high now...

You don't need to return the MPPSK to stock at lease end, they will give you a credit for putting it on in the first place.

I was unaware of that until now! Nice to know. OP, call BMWFS, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I generally don't like ASD since it's entirely synthetic. If I want my car to sound better, I would aim to actually make it sound better than to fool myself into thinking it sounds better.

i ordered mine with the 18s only bc the pot holes in NYC are retarded. I've changed 6 tires so far on my current car. I also heard the ride quality is better with the 18s.

Do you have tire insurance? Those potholes could be saving you money!

On my last CPO 2014 IS250 (18 wheels as well) I was talked into purchasing the wheel&tire insurance, and in the past 1.5yrs with it I only had 1 tire replaced (due to running onto a big brick of rock fallen from the truck in front of me on the local road), and a subsequent wheel corrosion causing air leakage after 6 months. Total cost for that would have been what, 400 bucks? I was in NJ back then and the road conditions weren't that great either. But I've learned really it doesn't make sense financially to sign up for that.

This time when I was at the dealership I was almost talked into signing up for it again (dealer quoted $1.7K for 3yrs). I already signed the lease, but decided to opt out and they managed to revise the contract for me so monthly payment was lowered.

I am so happy I made that decision. Well touch wood but I really think you need to be driving very recklessly to damage your wheels/tires to the point the cost would catch up with what you invest on the insurance...

I test drove a 17 model with 19" wheels on it. Can't really tell the difference on ride quality, but it was just a 5-min test drive so probably doesn't tell the full story.

Admittedly 19 looks definitely way better, but what's done is done for me. Therefore I'm seriously considering lowering springs and maybe wheel spacers as well.

I have 19's, they make the car really pop. Had one tire replaced under insurance for a bubble, though I could just get tires from tire rack and the insurance is only a fraction of the cost.

Did you get insurance from BMW? How much did you pay?
