I really want the 19 inch wheels but I live in New York and need traction in the winter w/ xDrive.

Yes, that's the OEM size, no problem.
But do you guys get staggered wheels on the xdrive in the US?

it says "mixed summer tires" online, I haven't ordered my car yet so I don't know 100%, but that's a good question

Yes, mixed summer tires means a staggered setup with wider rear wheels.

why do people stagger their winter tires?
Do people not realize thinner is better for winter tires?

You can still square your setup w/ staggered wheels. For example, I have staggered 18inch Msport wheels but I squared them for winter.

would that be overkill with snows and xDrive though?

Honestly, its all about safety for yourself and others. If you feel like the factory performance all-seasons are good enough + xdrive for the winter then all the power to you but if its not enough then certainly a square setup snow tires (doesn't have to be run-flat) + xdrive would be better/safer.

Btw do you have an F30? Or are you using the F30 M-sport wheels on your E90?

lease is up in may on e90, planning my order for the f30 that will replace it. Currently have 18 OEM M-Sport wheels with all seasons on the e90. I would like to order the 19s with summer tires and then get these pirelli snows for the winter to slip on the wheel.

Exactly, you can square them...

I plan on squaring my summer rims with my OEM all seasons when I burn through that rubber...the rear is subtly stretched, that's all.

I just want other forum members to realize, the THINNER the contact patch in the winter, the BETTER it is.

And you can have a staggered rim setup (with our OEM rims, that are staggered by a mere .5") with a squared tire setup.

I see. Yeah, order the 19s w/ summers staggered and then put winters on, that is fine. What I really recommend is pick up a set of used 18inch wheels (OEM bmw) for cheap and then put snows on those.

I'm using the OEM 403m Staggered Set-up with 225/40/19 Blizzak LM-60s. I have the rear stretched so I can rotate the tires if need be.

With xDrive the car has been great and I haven't had any issues with driving with the stretched rears.

Im in a similar position to you and am looking at the Pirelli Sottozero tires as well. Do you plan to use them year round? I was planning to do this to elimante seasonal tire change overs. But since its a dedicated winter tire, im still researching on how the tread will wear etc in dry conditions.

no reason to go year round when both pairs will be worn down eventually, also the pirellis are probably to soft for summer. I ordered my car with the 19s saturday

Yeah thats true! I will just opt for a winter tire and rim set for next winter. Might be some snow/slush on the ground in april when my vehicle arrives, but it shouldnt be too bad with xdrive.

I have the staggered m sport 18s and I'm running 225 squared winters in the same tire (non run flat though) on the wider rears with my xdrive. They stretched fine and its not noticeable, plus theyre a bit cheaper. Those are now my permanent winter wheels...perfect excuse to get new summer 19s. Was my plan all along as I think there are better looking options versus the M403 in aftermarket 19s (not that they look bad)
