ABS fault message
On my 2014 xdrive got a warning message saying there was an ABS fault, avoid hard braking, go to dealer.
This happened when going down a steep driveway, about 500 ft long, covered with black ice. The driveway ended on a major road onto which I didn't want to slide. I crept along at less than walking speed stopping frequently (to make sure I could), with left wheel intentionally brushing the snowy edge. I could hear the grinding from the ABS, and then the fault msg came and went a couple of times. No problem afterwards, including moderately hard braking but I didn't attempt to trigger the ABS. Was this a "fluke" occurrence due the conditions or a real fault? Will there be a saved error code? Any thoughts would be appreciated so that I can go to the dealer fully armed. Thanks. |

Probably a fluke related to the unusual conditions but I personally don't take any chances with Brakes or Steering, take it in to Dealer ASAP. Good luck!

Also, something similar happened with my MINI and it gave a message that the brake pads needed replacing. I had to take it in twice and it turns out that there were daily sensors. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. Still no recurrance though I'm waiting for a light snowfall or ice to test the ABS. But I will be following your advice and bring it to attention of dealer at oil and brake fluid service in a couple of weeks.
