Removed phone cradle

I am never going to use it and would rather have the extra space for change. I ordered the rubber from a 320i but it hasn't come in. Here are a few pics.

How did you do it??

How did you get the base mounting plate out??? I've been looking for a way to do this and can't find any instructions for an F30.

I'd really appreciate a few words to accompany your pictures.

Thanks.

Yes, please. How do you get that out? I want to use connection to the snap-in and build an additional USB port, but I don't need the big snap-in dock in there taking up all that space.

Plus what is that dual port USB thing you have there? You're not using that thing as a hub, are you? I would kill to be able to do that.

Garage List
Change rattling around in the car... This would make me drive into a wall in frustration. Can not handle shit moving around in the car... Especially if it makes a noise...

Other than that, nice job!

FYI, you can get a USB cable & socket to mount in the glove compartment (OE position, replaces a blanking plate) and uses the port on the back of the headunit vacated by the cradle.

I use this, gives the same functionality as the cradle, other than antenna boost.

Do you have the pin out of the cradle's plug for wiring the USB? This is exactly what I'm going to do.

Yep, plugs into the port on the rear of the head unit, vacated by the cradle.
Mine didn't have the cradle so the port was vacant.

Oh I see. So I think my options are:

1) Buy the cable/USB port, route the cable to the head unit. Mount the new USB port in the center armrest somewhere. I already contacted the seller and he said I'd need the longer version which he also has.

2) Buy the cable/USB port, route the cable between the head unit and the glove box. Mount the USB port in the glove box. This seems like it might be easier. As it is, getting to the back of the head unit has me a little nervous.

Is there maybe a third option? Looking at the pic that TMR posted above showing the cradle removed...it looks like the cable harness isn't nearly long enough to go all the way back to the head unit. Are there connections somewhere under the armrest where those plug in? I'm wondering if I could tap in there. And it's not clear, but are the cables actually hardwired into the cradle? Or are there connectors there too? MAybe I could plug into that end? (I'd just like to avoid getting at the head unit if possible. It seems hard.)

Edited to add...
Just watched a video of NBT removal. Ok, the only part I'm not sure of is the removal of the trim/center vents. That just pulls out using panel removal tools?

Vents just tug out, but be careful about the thin section at the passenger side.

Cover the shifter, etc with a cloth to avoid scratches.

I just went out to the parking lot at work and removed it in 5 minutes.

Pry it up from the front and pull on it until it snaps out. The pull off the rear of the center console and you will see 2 cables blue and black connectors. Unplug those and it pulls out.
