x6m for 320d money
Hi all,
Just popped into chester and had a quick look around the used car showroom and spotted a 2011 x6m in blue with all the bits on, I think its on at £37990 just wondered what the running costs would be on 4k miles a year, has anybody had any experience with the car? Cheers happy |

I played with the configurator at the weekend and built myself one. It came out at £105,000!!!
So buy it. It will be exclusive and awesome. And we all want to see photos. |

Running costs will be nothing to worry about at 4k per annum. The difference in a car doing 20mpg and one doing 40mpg on those miles is around £500 per year. Negligible to drive an X6M over a rattly 320d.
Maintenance will be a bit higher of course but again services aren't going to be a major factor with those miles. Only issue I see is that its an X6 and therefore rather ugly. Find an X5M if that's the route you are heading. |

I met a chap who had bought an E70 X5M as an Approved Used Car. While I admired it, he told me that it had been an utter dog and had broken down on three separate occasions in just a few months of ownership. It was so bad that he had agreed with the dealer to part ex it for a 535d. No doubt knowing BMW's rigourous standards his X5M would have been washed, vacuumed and sold again as an Approved Used Car!
I guess the X5M and X6M may be quite hard to sell, so my suggestion would be to negotiate for a 3 year warranty as part of the deal. Fun car, but not if you have to pick up the bills... |

I dare ask how much roadtax + insurance would be on either of those machines?

I personally have never been a fan. It's an uglier, more ostentatious and less practical x5 in my view and I never got why people bought this model over an M5 as it was poorer dynamically and less practical. However, that is some price and I really like the colour. Even though half the people you pass will curse under their breath, you will have the last laugh knowing you paid the same as their ubiquitous Q5 or 3 Series. Go for it!

The new models actually have more power than the standard M5. I think they must run the Jahre special edition map. It's only an 15bhp I think so probably more for bragging rights than noticeably better performance although thanks to x drive it would be faster off the line to an M5. As said above, the depreciation will be less than on a new 3 series and you get to own something a bit exclusive.

No DCT still, not even on the latest models
That said, go for it I reckon, whats to lose, bargain price and could be sold on with less depreciation than most other BMW!

Thanks for all your comments, will have a test drive then give it a bit more thought, they don't seem very popular when you ask in the trade, just fancy a suv of some sort and a change or upgrade of interior quality, cheers happy
