HU_CHAMP (Business Nav 2012) to CIC Professional HU retrofit

This might be an odd one as most people will want to go for a NBT unit, but I can get my hands on a Professional CIC unit for very little and I was wondering how easy an upgrade to this unit would be from my HU_CHAMP Business Navigation unit?

Is it like the NBT whereby an emulator is required or is the install more straightforward?

Can anyone direct me towards a guide for this or let me know if you've done a similar upgrade?

Thanks!

Anybody? I know it's an unusual upgrade as most people use an NBT but I've not found much info on this and like I said, the CIC unit I've been offered is in great condition and cheap as chips. If it's not much effort to install, I'd like to give it a go if I knew how....

Thanks again!

I'm not that familiar with CIC and Champ2, but as far as I know it should be quite a direct swap.
Which year is your car and do you have a combox or not?
Is the big 8,8" screen and cable also included at your CIC?
Yes you will have to use an emulator. But for CIC meanwhile there is also existing a kind of script activation. But I don't know much about it.

You need a combox if you want the use the CIC. If you have install a combox you all also have to route the USB/AUX, MIC and BT back to it. It's just a load work and hassle I'd rather not have.

This is why most people go for the NBT as it has the combox built in and all connectors go back to that unit.

But Champ2 and CIC seem at least to have exactly the same plugs at the rear panel. If he had a combox...

No combox in my car and that's what I feared. Is it 100% essential?

I have bluetooth in my car but for phone only. (Not enhanced)

Basically, I've been offered a Pro CIC for just €120 with the 8.8" display. I currently have the smaller display and the HU_CHAMP Business Navigation. It's quite alright for what I need but a Pro unit would of course be much nicer.

If it's a huge hassle, I'll just scrap the idea and spend the money on the M performance parts I would like to get instead.

It'll work but you'll lose the functions that the combox provides as the CIC doesn't have the hardware to support them.

What does the combox offer that the CIC Pro doesn't?

The combox handles the Bluetooth, Mic, USB and Aux. There are no connectors on the back of the CIC to handle those. If you look at the back of an NBT, it had those connections allowing you to by pass an external combox.

That also means you can't have enhanced BT add that is handled by the combox.

I don't think he's referring to retrofitting this on his F30 since HU_CHAMP2 is only used on the F10 and F25. Some of these actually have CMB_MEDIA as standard equipment.

OP, can you confirm the model that you are retrofitting on? If the car has 6AB, 6AL and 6NL, it should be pretty plug and play as long you have the 8.8" display and most emulator.

Business Nav in the UK/Europe was HU_CHAMP2, now replaced by HU_ENTRYNAV.

Yes, it is almost PnP. You only need CIC HU, CID, connection cable and a can filter.

Hi, sorry to bring up an old thread. I am wanting to go from my 606 business nav 6.5" with combox to 609 professional nav 8.8" - what is the can filter you speak of? What/if any coding is required for this particular retrofit?

Hi, today I installed professional nav to my 2012 with an emulator. I deleted 606 and added 609, the screen etc works but it does not play any audio. Radio finds stations but does not play, does not recognise usb stick inserted, telephone just keeps 'loading' so cannot connect to bluetooth and navigation thinks I am in nottingham but I am in Oxford (I guess that's where the unit was last used?). Please help!? I try to code cmb_media but it does not work and say: VCm update is deactivated VCM will not be updated C197:

CMB_MEDIA [36]
cdDeploy FinishedWithError
cafd_000005b6-004_002_017 NotExecutable

Do I need to code this? HU_CIC coded okay and screen resolution is fine and it appears to be communicating with the car as it knows my fuel range etc. Do I need to remove emulator, try again, and then reinstall emulator?
