Here is a place you can check:
https://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/ite...cic-nbt-nbtevo

I'd say you have NBT (CIC-High), not NBT Evo.

The screen looks like plain CIC to me, not CIC-High (NBT).

I thought the CIC only had the purple connector and no power wires. NBT got the connector + wires.

That being said, the NAV screen looks like the CIC version. Maybe you are at the cusp of a model switch and you have a hybrid?

CIC and NBT HU are Navigation units, you have no Navigation.

Looks like your OEM HU is Basic Media.

You should disconnect the pink connector and confirm what you have. If something like attached (6 pins) you have NBT. I did this inspection this weekend on my car, a 2014 320xI Entry System, without navigation.

It's actually called ENTRY - make sure you let the vendor know of that so that it's clear what it is because they may get confused if you refer to it as a CIC.

If you have Enhanced Bluetooth, you may also want to let them know of that as well since the way AUX is routed would be different and you can end up with no audio.

My car originally have only telephone BT. It didn't have BT audio, until we code to add the BT audio to stream music.
Is that what you call "Enhanced BT"?
So... if I try to add the MMI I may end up loosing audio?
I hope you can clarify, because MMI vendors in China will not give much technical support.

Thanks

You won't have enhanced bluetooth then. I think the deal is with enhanced bluetooth, the audio gets connected through the main back connector during install. Otherwise you need to run the 3.5mm audio cable from the unit to the AUX jack in the armrest.

That is my understanding, but maybe I'm wrong.

That's correct.

Vehicles with the combox have AUX routed to the trunk and not directly to the head unit. Some vendors may splice a 3.5mm AUX cable into the MMI interface harness which you can plug into the armrest while some will just assume that you have NBT and will not take combox into account.

You definitely have a combox if your vehicle is a US 2014 model with the Entry head unit.

Thanks, but how this affects my MMI installation?
The display screen shows AUX front, therefore I thought I was OK .
Do I need to extend another cable for AUX?

If you have a combox, the AUX doesn't run to the head unit and instead goes into the silver box in the trunk beside the fuse.

Vehicles without the combox have AUX routed from armrest directly to the HU.

I'm sorry for another question, and I will understand if you ignore that, but having the AUX in the COMBOX, means I'll not have to deal with the step shown in the attached picture?
Or... I'll have to extend an optical cable from this connector at head unit up to center console?
Thanks for your help again.

Yes you will as that fibre optic cable is what passes the AUX, USB and Bluetooth signal from the combox over to the head unit.

Just make sure that their MMI kit has a 3.5mm chord to plug into the armrest and you should be fine.

Entry / cic / nbt ??

I have the same system. I am in dialogue with Aliexpress as I ordered, what I thought, was a CIC car play system, but upon dismantling my centre console etc, I found this same purple 6 PIN LVDS cable plugged into the back of the screen. Furthermore, after installation, my screen says NO SIGNAL. If I restore to original, everything works as per normal.

So, does this mean I have an NBT system? Or as you say, its an ENTRY system. Does the ENTRY system support aftermarket Carplay/Android auto systems? What is an ENTRY system anyway? Is it an NBT system with a CIC user interface? I'm so confused...

With this recently purchased CIC carplay, is there anything I can do to modify it, ie via coding etc, to allow it to work?

Any help, guidance, or something I can go back to Aliexpress with would be most appreciated, cheers.

I did. So despite the GUI looking like a CIC, it is in fact an NBT. A kind of mix of two systems.

So I had to bite the bullet and ordered an NBT unit. Once installed, worked perfect. Apparently there is nothing you can do to the existing CIC unit to modify the LVDS connection to fit the NBT. Am keeping my CIC unit as looking at a 2012 E70 that I will install that into.
