Planning an OEM DIY 6.5 inch screen to 8.8 Swap

What’s up fam! I need some help. So after doing a ton of research and looking into the possibility of upgrading my tiny 6.5 inch (slightly blemished) stock idrive display it appears swapping an OEM unit might be the easies5 route to go for me. I don’t need carplay, android auto, snapface, instatok and whatever else the kids are using these days lol just want a bigger screen that works well with stock idrive that I can possibly add an aftermarket back up camera to. I have a 2016 bmw 320i xdrive that I believe is the LCI with led tails and ambient lighting. From what I’ve seen online, on OEM swap would be pretty easy since I have the required stock set up to swap it out? Can you guys help me confirm this and also advise what OEM 8.8 inch to buy? Do I buy pre Lci 8.8 or lci 8.8? Should it be simply plug and play plus coding? Thanks in advanced!

Just picked up this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/354858685366 came out of a 4 series but same part number and eBay says it fits as well. Steal for an 8.8 inch used oem scren imo

realoem.com - enter in last 7 vin and go to audio/nav and see what is listed for 8.8 p/n.

no one knows if the p/n you posted will work unless we can see the vin & look it up.

Found that link shortly after I posted this but thank you! Worked like a charm I found the perfect screen. Hopefully the install and coding are as simple as it looks.

it is. just change the cpl settings and you’re golden. keep in mind, if you use bimmercode, there is a chance it may not code correctly but if you use esys, no issue at all.

You are the man! Thank you! I’ve gone like 6-7 pages deep in that original post about screen upgrades as well and now I’m super confident. I would have done this 3 years ago when I got my car but there was not as much info out as there is now. I was a newb (still kinda am) and thought my only chance to upgrade was to pay bimmertech 900 for their panoramic screen. Psh screw that. Got my used screen from eBay for 200 shipped with 1 year warranty. Canceled the first one I ordered for 170 shipped because it was a little dingy looking on the screen itself and the back and I wasn’t sure it could be wiped clean or what scratches lay below. New one I ordered is pristine. Is esys free? I always use BimmerCode and already dropped 40 for it or however much it is. Don’t want to pay anymore if not needed lol

Also, cpl setting? Is this in the headunit itself? One last question… this will enable me to have split screen or is that a function of the head unit? I’ve never done split screen on my 6.5 and honestly don’t even know how.

HU_NBT > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480
HU_NBT > 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display

If your HU is EVO, you may be able to code in carplay but it’s much different process than the screen replacement. If your HU is nbt, you’ll need mmi box or droid screen replacement unless you replace the HU entirely with evo but that is not easy for average person.

Yeah pretty sure I have nbt entry NAV with my 2016 f30 Lci 320i not 100 percent sure but don’t even want CarPlay enough to mess around and look or do complicated coding. Thanks again for all of your help!

Success! Coding with bummer code worked on the first try on my 2016 bmw 320i xdrive lci version. No errors whatsoever. 8.8 inch screen looks so much better! Icing on the cake was that I figured out I have the small head unit packed in so it should be easy to add an mmi if I really want apple CarPlay. Big shouts to everyone that helped out and answered my annoying ass questions. I’ll be sure to pay it forward! Also, took me about 35-45 minutes to complete and that stupid ass top dog law commercial was on during both pictures I took lol exactly why I don’t listen to the radio.

Pro tip… you gotta take everything out or you won’t have enough slack on the display cord wire to get that stupid little plug out the back. Taking out the stupid bmw plugs and clips was the hardest part. Everything else was smooth as butter.

This one but looks like it’s sold out. Got it in 2020 back when I got the car. It’s actually really nice. I won’t be using it anymore so if you want mine you can have it if you pay shipping but the black little piece came off of the magnet. Still works just the magnet is exposed.
