What is the source that the F31 will have the new system? I believe F31 is supposed to be in dealerships spring 2013 which means production might not start till late winter of 2012.

Production of petrol versions of the F31 for EU markets will start soon (probably Aug/Sept as first deliveries will be during September), with diesels starting from Nov onwards. Pricing details for most EU markets are already available & orders are being taken. |

Guys,
I'm confused! So this new Nav is a technical update or a hardware update? What I mean to say is do we get a new iDrive controller or a new screen or everything remains the same just a new software update?

Think of it as getting a new graphics card for your PC, everything outside looks the same but it's much faster so that you can run the latest games. In other words, no one has an expectation that owners of the old system will be able to upgrade to the new one. |

Waiting makes no sense when it comes to infotainment. You wait until November ... Guess what, the year after we will see the updated touch controller. After that the next gen i-drive will arrive. After that ... Who knows. Get the car at the time when you need it.
These current updates are relatively minor despite what BMW marketing will tell you. The routing algorithms and map data remain unchanged. Teleatlas is still providing the same crappy map data. It's just presentation thats changed. If you want google street view and panoramio simply recode for BMW live. This is supported with current hardware. |

The thing that can't be recoded for is full Internet access, google POI search, etc. I am coming to the conclusion that I will end up waiting the rest of this year to find out what is going on and still only a 50/50 chance of seeing this make it to the US for spring 2013 delivery.

If BMW do anything different, they will only be doing it to use up old parts.

Just a little update and maybe a glimmer of hope for those whose F30 cars are going into production in July.
My CA here in Colorado called me today and said that he had been striking out on finding anything out, but they had a training session recently and the BMW factory representative in this area dropped in and he specifically asked him if the new idrive was going to show up on US F30 cars when production resumes in July. He said that the factory rep described a Nav update very similar to what we see in this thread which he described as minor, saying that it includes new 3D navigation graphics some interface changes and that it's "faster"... which sounds extremely similar to the i-drive refresh that we see covered here. The key takeaway is that he specifically said that it was coming to the July and onwards built F30 cars, including those destined for north america. Take it for what it's worth. |

It's already confirmed for the 5 series. The speculation centers around the 3 series which was specifically NOT announced for 2013 other than for the active-hybrid version coming out at the end of the year.

As of now, officially the only 2013 models announced to get this in the US (starting July production) are the 7 series, 5 series, 5 series GT, and ActiveHybrid 3 (which actually starts production after July). Whether the F30 3 series gets the new NAV (Navigation Professional) sometime later during the 2013 model year remains to be seen. You can be sure that at the very least, the first batch (July production) of 2013 model year F30 3 series won't have the new navigation professional system. Whether it gets added via an equipment change sometime during the 2013 model year is something BMW isn't disclosing to us right now. What we can gleam from the information they have announced so far though is that the Activehybrid 3 will get the new navigation professional system. And the Activehybrid 3 starts production in November. So it's definitely possible that 2013 F30 3 series as of November production may get it as well.
