435i Coupe HK System - Poor Bass
I've just started reading through all of the HK EQ threads, but almost all of them seem to be for the 3-Series.
I'm coming from a 2011 328i Sedan with HK where the bass was plenty (sometimes too much) right out of the box. On my 435i Coupe, bass seems non-existent, especially when listening to Sirius or Bluetooth streaming. While digging through threads, I even found one where HK was ordered (including VIN verification), but not installed at the factory. Although highly unlikely, I'll have to check this when I get my car back from the shop as the lack of bass as a whole is that noticeable. Can anyone provide a good EQ that they are currently using?

HK settings on 435
EQ is subjective but I do know that the 435 HK has a lot more bass than my 2011 335 with HK
Treble: +1 Bass: +4 100: +4 200: -5 500: -4 1K: -4 2K: -4 5K: 0 10K +2 L7 off (I hate that thing.... it may add some life to the mix but it really confuses the imaging to my ears and messes up the EQ settings). Fader is +3 bias towards the front. Quote:

Finally got my car back today and tried both. I wasn't a big fan of either settings, but I do appreciate the responses. I found the below elsewhere on the forum for an F30 and am decently satisfied with it.

One of the unfortunate limits of the system is not being able to control EQ individually per media source.
If I tune for a CD and Bluetooth and Sirius (the majority of my listening) are poor, what good does that do me?

At some lower frequencies, I have distortion and a buzzing/vibrating sound at medium volume. The best way I could describe is it sounds like the center channel is blown, although I've never cranked it up loud enough to blow anything. I'll post a picture of my EQ, but my setup is drastically different than most here. I keep bass at around 80% and treble a few clicks lower with a U-shaped EQ...higher on the highs and lows and towards flat in the mid-range. Although the highs are sometimes a bit jarring, I find any other setup to sound muddled. I solely listen via Bluetooth, but the difference when listening to a CD or quality files on a USB stick isn't drastic. For a "premium sound" option, the HK in these cars sucks. I am now using the settings below and am pretty happy across all media sources.

I was gonna say...From a person who has had Subs in most of my vehicles until these new guys, Im VERY happy and impressed with both my 335 and M6's sound, especially in the bass department. I really dont know why it would be less in the 4???

Yeah, I had subs in all my previous non-BMW vehicles as well. My 2011 328i Sedan was great. Unfortunately my 435i Coupe, not so much.

The only additional change I made is to set the fader one point towards rear speakers. That does the trick for me. I am connecting via Bluetooth - iPhone 6+ - all EQ settings off. (I prefer "late night" when I use earbuds). Will try with usb at some point. |
