Front clunky noise BC Coilovers

Hello,

Have you ever experienced a clunky noise with your BC RACING coilovers? I have a 2014 bmw 4 series and I hear a clunck noise at the front part of the car over bumpy roads.

Thanks for your comments!

Yes, it's completely normal. My e92 had the same issue. Annoying... but it is what it is.

I am very familiar with Bilstein and KW coilovers. Neither produced a clunking noise. What does BC Racing say about this noise?

I think the noise comes from the camber plates, maybe produced by the pilowball or the bearing

That's right. Camber plates can be noisy.

Use your tool to soften the blows of bumps & potholes. This tool should have came with your coilovers and can be adjusted at the top of each. Just can't remember which way is soft or hard but it will tell you.

Finally the problem is solved 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.
I have replaced the bc racing camber plates by a k-sport street camber plates. Both brands have interchangeable parts. The k-sport camber plates has a rubber insert (similar to the oem top mounts) that eliminates all the front clunky noise.
See those pictures

I hope it helps

Can you please let me know where you got these from? I did a google search for k-sport street camber plates and I didn't find them.

How much were they please?

I would want to fit them to my K/W street comfort C/Os

You get clunking with the KW SC?

I do not get clunking at all, not even the slightest with the KW SCs.

That said, I think the clunking comes from the spherical bearing on top of the shock that the camber plates use. From the limited knowledge I have... it is related to that.

I have all but ruled out the camber plate option now due to the unacceptable noise they create. I haven't read any threads that provide camber plates without the noise for coilovers.

You have to contact your local K-Sport dealer and ask about those camber plates.

There are threads in the various sub-forums which have extensive discussions regarding camber plates.

For camber plates which utilise a rigid mounted monoball the main problem is NVH transfer, rather that the creation of NVH by the camber plates themselves. The exception here is, of course, if the monoball itself becomes worn.

Top mounts (OEM and some aftermarket options) which utilise rubber/elastomer/poly to encase the damper piston rod attachment point are just isolating the NVH. It's still there, but it's not transferred (as much) to the chassis.

One of the downsides, depending on the material and the design of the camber plate, is the isolation material can rob the damper of some of the immediacy of its response.
