That sucks!

Same thing happened to me a WEEK after I got my car (used). Hit a pothole on the way to work and it took out both my passenger side tires. I grabbed two used ones on ebay with the same types (GOODYEAR EFFICIENT GRIP RUN FLAT) with 90% thread life for the price of 1 tire brand new.

Not on the the 19in low profile tires he has. I know from experience. The two times I have gotten blow outs on my Pirelli P Zeros I have had to get my car towed as I was unable to drive on the tire any more. I am buying a spare and when my tires need to be replace I will not put run flats back on because they are useless against blow outs and the negatively effect the handling/steering feel of the car.

BMW uses about a jillion of those tires. They have not been discontinued and should be readily available from multiple sources. I don't think I'd continue doing business with this outfit.

Pot hole or curb? Holy moly! It's amazing you didn't bend the rims. I've had pothole cause bubbles to form in the stock RFTs (one reason I've driving BMWs since 2003 with standard tires without issue), but that must have been quite a hit. How fast were you going? Check Tirerack. I'm pretty sure they have your current tires in stock.

BMW told me this morning that they don't use those ones anymore so they'd be hard to find.

But the guy also told me that if I don't get run flats that the ride quality will suffer and it will negatively affect performance and handling.

It was a really deep pot hole. Must have been at least 5-6 inches deep.

Was going about 70km/h.

What do you guys make of this ?
With no disrespect meant, my take away is you shouldn't be driving a new german car if $400 in tires requires monthly payments

Oh, and I wouldn't mix tires and would look into whether the wheel got damaged

If you get pot-hole shaped tires, your ride will be super smooth because the tires and the potholes will fit like a puzzle.

Wrong. I had one and they worked fine.

And by the way, it's true the wheels are made to use run-flat tires, but you can still use normal tires. Normal wheels with run-flats? Not so great...

To be fair, he said is was 0% financing. He didn't say he "needed to finance". If they will let you pay over time without charging interest, generally, there's no downside.

Yeah I had my car towed because while they are run flats, the noise the car was making when I was just slowly driving it out of my garage did not make it seem like a good idea to drive it all the way to Canadian Tire. The last thing I wanted was to risk damaging the wheel. Still hoping that the wheels and the ball joints have been spared...

Anyways, so they just called back and as I suspected, no one can seem to find the model of tire I currently have, so I'm going to just buy 4 new summer performance tires and sell the 2 run flats. Otherwise I'll be waiting around for days trying to find them and get them shipped to the service center.

I told the guy the model of tire I wanted (Michelin Pilot Super Sport) and he's like ahhh but you need run flat tires otherwise your tire will fall off the wheel. I'm like, BMW JUST told me over the phone that its perfectly fine to put non run flats. He's like ohhhhh, really you sure? Well I'll try to inquire and get back to you.

Friggin' amatures.

The 2 remaining tires are Continental 225 45 18 SSR Conti Pro Contact 91V if anyone's interested.
You will love the PSS tires. Sure, they're pricey but worth every penny.

Exactly.

I don't NEED to finance anything. I just would have preferred it at this time. They wouldn't have cost $400 either, it would have been $1200 for 4 new tires + installation.

Anyway, now I'm getting LivFast's wheels and tires and there is no financing available with this option
