Auto Wiper responsiveness
So a while ago I posted about my auto wipers not being that responsive. The car is at the dealer for a couple of things so I brought this up with them.
The called me later in the day to give me an update and stated that the wipers were fine... Thing is, the F30 loaner that they haven't works likes dream...! The difference between mine and the loan car is night and day... I had to turn the sensitivity down. I wonder how they validate that the auto wipers work... I hope they don't just sprinkle water on the sensor and see if they spring into life.. If they do that then it's no wonder that they say they work... I told them about my experience with the loaner and asked them to go and look at it again... BTW. I was told by the service rep that there is a software update campaign for the wipers. The things it resolves are to do with auto wipers being left in the wrong position, or running on after switching off the car. Mine did not have that issue, but they are doing the update anyway. He also mentioned something in the update about the boot opening mech but I didn't catch the details

I have just heard from the dealer. They have stated that the wiper speed is now fixed by the software update. Apparently they were not moving into fast mode automatically and the coding fix has now resolved that and they have been tested.
I will test them myself when i pick the car up (and when it rains) and post back to confirm that they are working correctly.

I wonder what 'not going into the fastest setting' means. Mine do go into it's quickest setting in heavy rain fine. It is the intermittent settings that are a pain and never enough.

I will test them out over the coming days and see if they have improved. Like i say, the loan F30 that i have works sooo much better than mine did. It's not a subtle thing, it's a clear difference. Will report back....

In my E82 and E92, if it was really torrential rain the auto wipers just wouldn't be fast enough, so I had to flick it to 'fast' manually, which was much faster. Should the F30 go to 'fast' on its own, and keep up with even torrential rain? Don't think I've tested that yet!

After talking to the BMW tech I think 'fast mode' is not anything to do with the speed of the wiper action. It is related to the speed that the sensor senses. Changing the sensitivity on my car had no effect because the fast sensing mode was not being activated.
The other thing I learnt. The sensors calibrate immediately after the initial wipe which occurs after you enable the auto mode. If you drive a long way with the auto mode on, but the wipers have not been in use then it is advisable to turn them on and off again in order to clean the screen and re-initialise the sensor. No rain forecast for me this weekend.. Will report back when I've tried them out.

I would've thought they would have plugged the hole in production. Worth asking though..
