Tinted Number Plates

Over the past week or two I've seen more and more cars driving around with tinted number plates...

I guess this is the new thing that people are doing? Seen them on a lot of modded cars. Some are barely readable while others just look darker/stealth like, especially on dark coloured cars.

What's everyone's take on these?

Saw a BMW with them on this morning, looked terrible, really cheap and tacky.

No front plate is the big one at the moment around here. See numerous cars every day with no plate on the front, no idea why this is now a thing.

Three points on your license and £100 fine.
Is this true?

I am front plateless in California. A front plate ticket will typically only require a small fine and a tow hook mount to get it taken care of.

I saw a new Audi with these on the a12 this week.
Tinted on a clean white car screams bellend and 'pull me over' in my opinion. Surely it's perverting the course of justice?!?

It's illegal over here. ANPR must be able to read number plates front and back. And it just looks ridiculous imo

We get loads of cars around Wolves / Birmingham that have missing front plates, almost unreadable tinted plates, lights that are so tinted you can barely see them and front screens that are well past the legal limit.

It also seems a lot of these cars belong to those that fail to have insurance, tax, a driving licence.

It also appears that these cars have broken drivers seats, as they are set at lowest height and driver can just see over dash.

The law is very specific on plates. The police use ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) to check that's cars have paid vehicle duty, are stolen, have insurance. And then of course the speed cameras need to be able to read them...

It's nice being able to get away with not having a front plate out here... however, it would also be nice to have the short and wide European shaped plates designed for BMW's bumpers and trunks instead of USA's tall and narrow plates that look out of place on European cars.
