How to remove idrive controller wheel?

I am thinking about getting a ceramic idrive controller wheel. Does anyone know how to just remove the stock wheel?

Do they make a ceramic one for iDrive touch? Anyway, pretty sure its screwed into the panel from underneith, so if you remove the wood or whatever material you have panel, there should be screws.

As I understand it, the idrive wheel is the same as the one on the F10. Another f32 owner from France did this mod on their car.

This is the part I talking about. I am not sure if I have to purchase the whole assembly with the buttons or just the wheel.

I believe it will come with the buttons above/below the wheel as well. I've seen people remove it when they change the trim to the cf/Alcantara ones.

That won't do it. That's an aftermarket piece to make the old CIC Navi controller look like the new NBT controller (atleast that what it appears to be to me)

I've been looking for a ceramic controller for the hell of it, but if I can even find one it's usually way too expensive.

Look at the DIY pics on the bottom of the listing. They are using it on a CIC controller:

Ok, the description says its for touch iDrive. "Suitable for BMW 3 Series BMW 5 Series 1 Series multimedia ceramic "black ceramic" handwriting idrive large knob"

So you are saying you need the whole assembly $425:

Yup.

That eBay ad is definitely for someone with an older CIC knob who wants to get the NBT Ceramic appearance.

You should see if someone makes an iDrive wheel that looks like the wheel from Wheel of Fortune, then you should definitely get that instead.

to remove the controller you need to take apart the trim where the controller is mounted to.
start from the front, near the cupholders.
once you get it out its 3 T20 screws holding it in.

Will these dials replace/work on the non-navi setup? My non-navi setup only has 3 buttons across the top as seen in the picture. It only allows for left/right movement (no up and down).

Hi

I have purchased a CIC ceramic controller (4pin) and want to install it into my F10 which I believe is a 10 pin connector.

Has anyone either:

1 Made a customer harness
or
2 Removed the CIC wheels and the lower ring

If so would appreciate if anyone could offer any advice or link to another thread.

The pictures in this thread appear as if the copy NBT wheel sits on to of the original CIC.

The F10 Ceramic Touch Controller is 4 pin. It works on a different internal data network than the CIC Controllers as well.

Better question is where can I get that center console piece?

Easiest way is to replace the entire controller.

You will need to do some research to ensure you buy the correct controller (a lot of them aren't compatible) but once you've found the right one, it's plug and play.
