If there's one manufacturer I hate more than Audi, it's Lexus.

to be honest the interior of the lexus is miles ahead in quality of the bmw. don't even get me started on the reliability. i think that V6 is going to sound much better than bmw's N20. tuning options should be much higher too.

That engine does not compete with the n20. The 204hp 2.5 competes with the n20.

LOL same here!

Perhaps, similar to Honda and Acura with the Civic and ILX respectively, they will listen to customer feedback and make a radical change 1 year after initial production.. (don't see how this is possible with an engine.. R&D is a must)..

A few ways I could see this car being fixed (NOT OVERTAKE THE BMW)... Tail lights are nice, until they start fading into those awkward thin lines, remove the lines and its nice again. The front, I think the grill is way too powerful, shrink it a little bit, similar to the GS.. it does not have to cover the entire front top to bottom..

Interior I think is wonderful, especially all the nice LFA inspired gauges.. but as for the engine.. using an engine that has been around since 2005... you're better than that Toyota..... 2.5 V6 is a complete dog, and gets similar gas mileage to the 3.5 V6... introduce a 2.0T and perhaps a 3.5T or maybe even a 3.0T....
The 2.5 gets way better mileage than the 3.5. I've seen 37.5 mpg on a highway trip in my wife's IS250. You won't touch that in a 350. Town mileage is good too.

However, I do agree that they should have refreshed the engine choices. However, even having been around since 2005 that 3.5 v6 is every bit as powerful and silky smooth as a N55.

UMM not quite...I had an IS350 before both of my 335i's and the N55/N54 are definitely faster. The F30 is even faster because of that 8 speed auto. The new IS may be lacking in the powertrain department but I will LOL if it handles better than the F30.

Furuyama admits that the previous IS fell short in the performance department.

"As soon as I was assigned to be IS chief engineers of the IS, I drove all the rival cars and studies all the differences," he says. "Unfortunately, while I thought the IS was one of the sportier and more enjoyable cars in this segment, I found out that the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class were actually a few steps ahead of us. Not really surprising..
I literally fell asleep midpoint watching this video. the soap opera music and subtitles were just killing me. must watch later.

The M3 video is classic and keeps the observer interested.

This thing very well may drive great. It may be an absolute blast to drive. They're missing a big part of the equation though. BMW is successful because it's brand wraps three facets together - performance, comfort and class - and places them at an accessible price point. Lexus may get the performance part and the comfort part, but they completely missed on the class part. This thing looks like a riceboy dream come true. Like something sketched out by a high schooler. It's jumbled. Its design lacks focus and purpose. The side sill is the worst part. How did that make it past approval? The back of the car admittedly is not bad. The front - the grill is ridiculous but I could even adjust to that. The entire middle of the car connecting the two is completely uninspired though. As someone else mentioned, it looks like the front, back and middle were designed by 3 different teams and tacked together. I wouldn't want to be seen in something like this when there is the option of a BMW that just exudes class and sophistication available.

"The 3 series is the best in class..."

"We realize our cars are not as good as the 3ers and C class, but we are trying hard..."

"We aim for 100%, but we aren't really quite there yet..."

That pretty much sums up the video. The guy is way too honest and upfront, he needs to take a few lessons in marketing.

Torque.

Both v6 engines, hp is one thing, but neither can touch the n55/n20 in torque. The n20 puts down as much or more torque as the 3.5. Mine has put down 260 to the wheels, near the 3.5s crank rating.

I like the look of the M4 concept. I don't know why some people look for reasons not to like it. Can't please everyone, that's fact!

There are some options to improve the standard driving for 3 series as available for other models in the range (5 series, etc.).
You can't say some negative comments before you drive an adequately equipped model

Faster maybe because of the car they are in. I was only talking about the engine itself. For reference that same 3.5 v6 in a GS350 will outrun my 535i with the N55.

Keep believing that, just don't line up with an IS350 and expect to outrun it because you won't. The N20 is impressive for what it is though. Too bad they don't sound very good.

sure. maybe you are really lucky have a really good interior. in the hotter and more humid climates, the new bmw's are having rust problems. if my country was the UK they would have suffered the same destruction Lancia had a few years ago. Please don't get me wrong though, I love BMW's but i can boldly say I do not like the latest ones as much even though they are the default choice of cars I would buy unless Maserati or Porsche comes out with something in the compact executive segment.

one thing for sure, Lexus definitely nailed the instrument panel nicely with its LFA style speedo. Looks miles better than the Enhanced Black Panel.

The 350 traps abot 3mph faster than an n20, would not expect to be faster without a tune. The n20 has almost no sound stock, sounded pretty damn good once I added an exhaust. Adding the tune will net me impressive results.

Again, the n20 is the base engine just as the 2.5 is.

I gauantee the n20 puts on much more hurt to the is250 than the 350 does to the n20.

Pfff

Good luck Lexus. Maybe if you focused on actual driving dynamics instead of dressing up Camrys you might have a shot.

At least they are doing one thing right... if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.

And they certainly know who the best is.
