Bluetooth, iDrive and leaving your car while on a phone call

I cannot for the life of me figure out what BMW was thinking here.
Scenario: On the phone, park the car, going into work/home/store etc.
Put car in park, turn off ignition : engine stops, iDrive still on, phone still connected
Push ignition again (or open the door as I have iDrive coded to turn off when I open the door) and electronics mostly turn off but phone still stays connected to car/iDrive seems to stay on.
Only when I end the call or turn off BT on my phone does the car finally decide to turn iDrive off completely.

Who the hell wants their car to stay on after they've actually stepped out of the vehicle?? Is there something I'm missing, cause I've been through every single menu trying to get it to drop the damn call and turn off when I tell I to! You'd figure by the second time you push the Off button, the car would know you want it to turn off!

If you lock the car,it will turn off the phone. However,if you are in your home garage and do not lock the car, then you have to transfer to call to your phone.

On my android phone, there's an option to pick the call up on the phone. I usually click that when I get out of the car

iPhone gives you the same option.

How did this function before the code mod?

Or put it back OEM and test.

I have the same option on my iPhone, just takes a few seconds to transfer the call over to the phone.

People will complain either way, imagine, parked up, stopped the engine, pressed the stop/start button to turn of the car and the phone disconnected from the car, what the hell are BMW playing at?

+1

One way or the other someone will not like it and someone will. BMW can't please everyone. That is the option is there on your phone.

Go to your phone, and hit the button to transfer from the car BT to the handset. Then exit, lock your car and walk away. iDrive will shut down in a few minutes.

Why didn't BMW design the system to just auto-transfer the call back to your phone when you shut down, just like it auto-transfers to the car when you start up? But if you follow the steps above, you won't be stuck in your car to finish the call.

Even my older E93 did this....But I agree if you turn the car off and it drops the call that would likely be more annoying
