I am going to try and patch this weird tailpipe valve unit for sure. Not sure how but I will try.

Take a flat piece of steel and trace out a circle then cut it out with a cutoff wheel, or even a body saw with a metal blade if you have one.
You could also try to have a local machine shop cut one out for you... a water jet could slice one out in a few seconds. The inside of that things certainly looks different than the OE F30 muffler.

It's low key garbage how they designed this thing then charged people 700 for one.

Thanks for opening it up! Not sure I'd call it garbage since it was probably the M Performance engineers that designed it to function and sound a certain way. Looks like that weird valve diverts gas into that small chamber when the exhaust flap is closed. This may be to quiet the muffler when in comfort mode. In sport mode, the flap opens up to free up the sound. I'm sure closing off the diverted pipe or even opening up that entire chamber will make it sound louder. Standing by for more experimentation!

Only if this was up last year. $1000 would have been saved.

Not sure I get all the hate. Everyone knows that anything OEM is more expense, i.e. the M Performance tune. And the MPE does exactly what it's supposed to. It's an axle back that gives you a nice bump in sound and burble over the stock piece without being super loud. If anyone was expecting something like Eisennman or AWE volume from the MPE, they were looking in the wrong place from the beginning.
Not sure why people were expecting the inside of the MPE to be laced with gold, lol. Just saying. Either way, really appreciate Chicken_Joe for doing this.

Yup yup. I will be posting an update on how the inner pipe is that I had rigged up is going to look. I dropped it off at my trusty muffler shop merely because I don't have all the tools required to make this work as well as a welder at my house. I use my schools welders to patch all this stuff up

Awesome. Looking forward to the next phase of the mod!
In case some of you guys never saw this, check this video out on M Performance parts. They talk about the exhaust and what it took to engineer it. Again, it's not as loud as aftermarket offerings, but it's definitely a nice bump in sound and sportiness. A good watch.

Update time I guess:
So I welded it all up and what not. I'll go through my phone and see if I have the pics from the install. I got it in my buddy's car and tbh it didn't sound very different. It was a little louder. However when my buddy installed his downpipe is when it got really loud. I will try and get a video from him. Sounds good.

I have a feeling that the little plug that I welded up has something to do with the sound by being loud however where the inlet from the exterior comes into the metal body of the muffler there is no solid pipe connecting the premuffler exhaust system to the actual muffler internals. I know that sounds weird but I think I have pics of what I'm talking about. The muffler relies a lot on sound tuning of air or gasses rather then piping if that makes sense.... What I'm essentially saying is when the gasses from the exhaust enter the muffler they swirl around the 1st chamber before they travel to the 2nd and 3rd chambers. Unfortunately I don't have a pic

My modded OEM muffler is a tad louder then an MPE. I guess welding up an MPE the same way is well...the same result.
