Well that goes down the tubes now.

You are right it's going to annoy a lot of die hards, but even more so, it's going to p.o. people that actually shop different brands before buying. Hopefully BMW will rethink this "one size fits all" strategy. It's just dumb for a $40K+ car.
Actually compared to E90, with the specific lines F30 offers more cosmetic items to suit an individual's taste.

I don't either. How many generations of the 3 series are they going to revert to standard bulbs, then add LED's at the LCI? It's friggin annoying!!

There are much less expensive cars that have led lights. BMW needs to find something else to change for the LCI

I understand that but I don't think you will be able to get Saddle without getting the luxury line. I know the UK configurator is different but if you build from a base model you have the choice of black or beige.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it will be different.

Totally agree. And think about, LED lights are something you should EXPECT to be standard on a car such as a BMW. Same goes for Xenon headlights.

Quite possible.

In contrast to the E90, however, you can only get these items is very specific combinations. It seems quite likely, in fact, that the total number of variations now, across all options and packages, has gotten smaller. And I think that, if so, this demonstrates the brilliance in the marketing behind these lines. They give the consumer more choices while actually reducing the individuality which would then reduce BMW's costs.

Hound Passer makes a very good point regarding Mini. If you've never done so, go to their site and spec out a car. You will see that the level of customization is almost stupefying. And there are no (well, a few, I suppose) restrictions as far as what can be had with what. It's wide open. Exterior trims, accents, interior colors, patterns, wheels, aerodynamics of all sorts, etc. can be had in nearly any combination you wish.

MINI is supposed to be a personal fun car.

BMW mainly targets a different crowd. Besides, BMW already more choices than MB or Audi.

No, I think you are most probably correct. That is to say that, in fact, ordering no line at all pigeon holes you into a few select choices, exactly as ordering one of the lines does. In other words, specifying no line is quite literally like specifying the "base line", and you are thus limited to two interior colors and three interior trims (I mispoke in an early post regarding trim choices - I said 2 rather than 3). You are also limited to black kidney grills, and either flat or glossy black exterior trim. Your wheels choices are also limited. This was all described by southlight in one of the past threads on the topic.

Perhaps it would be helpful to add the "base line" to the chart in the first post (well, assuming that the situation in the US end up being the same as the UK, as I suspect).

I'll strongly doubt that BMW would openly suggest that their cars are not fun and not personal. In fact, their marketing would have you believe the opposite. Don't know about you, but all of my BMW's have been fun, and personal too for that matter.

Oh? Have you actually enumerated all the different combinations of each? I'm not saying you are wrong, but I find it hard to believe you've proven this out. Just sayin.

The price of the new 5er was actually cheaper than the e60, so I figured there's a chance they f30 could be less then an e90.

What is variable sport steering (2VL) ? It is listed under optional equipment. I have EP steering in my F10 and I don't like it.

Questions, questions......

Many have wondered if the F30 comes with LED Corona's. Many have said no but if one looks at the pics from the F30 production line post it clearly looks like they do......

Really the craziest combo/option is potentially the Modern line with Black interior because according to the ordering guide it comes with an "oyster" dash and steering wheel yet the rest of the interior is all black..!

My whole life I've never seen a black interior with a beige dashtopper-much less a beige steering wheel.

Pretty wild.

It may just start a trend.

I found the German pricing sheet and summarized the original post here with those prices added where I could find them.
Note that Euro pricing includes 19% VAT.
I computed US$ pricing by subtracting this and adding 37% for exchange rate - works out to 15% adder - and then rounded to the nearest $10.
In case of packages or groups of items, I included a simple rolled up total.

-- It will be interesting to see what the actual US pricing is along with all the option options available.

I agree, package prices will be lower. As I said, I just added up the prices for the individual options. This gives an idea of the cost of the package vs. cost of options if added individually.

I find the ordering guide to not be very helpful. Like others have posted, it looks like BMW is really limiting the options and colors most would want with certain cars.

I want the sport car and 18" sport rims on the 328i but it appears I will be required to take black mirrors, aluminum trim, and gray or black interior which I do not want. I would probably want tan with wood which may kick me out of the sport steering wheel and rims options.

I'm do not find the non-sport 18" rims to be very attractive.

I would also want the upgraded stereo, heated seats, sunroof (premium pkg), and possibly the paddle shifters. The price for those will most likely be within my price expectation so I'm okay there.

I hope BMW adds some additional options so some like me won't look to older cars or other makes. I may end up with a used F10 instead of a new F30

Please explain why it is 'ridiculous' to allow people to choose the items they want to pay for and to not pay for the items they don't want???
