Increased cooling capacity for the brakes? Something like that. I never use my fog lights anyway, so all the better, one less thing to break .

I read that the US M-Sport deletes the fog lights for increased air intake. I would have preferred to have them but I guess it's yet another way to distinguish an M-Sport from a crowd of F30s.

I just wonder why we couldn't have the best of both worlds. I mean, how hard would it really have been to keep the extra part of that bumper area as a vent? Why make it occlusive at all? I would think they could keep the light in there and vent the rest...
And when you see it in person, next to a US Spec, it does look cheaper, even if only because you see that the space could have been used for SOMETHING. The look of function on the US Spec looks better to me. |

I prefer it without the fog lights too. I don't even know what the fog lights are for anyway. Probably just a legal thing in countries where it's required. We have daytime running lamps that function very well as fog lights. The front of the car looks more streamlined and purified without this appendage.

I love my fog lights, I installed 3k HIDs in them and you see everything!

IIRC, BMW gave the explanation about how Americans are more actively involved in motorsports and track their cars more than others, and many purchasing the M Sport would be taking their cars onto a track, like with BMWCCA events and so forth. Because of that, they omitted the fog lamps to allow for more airflow into the brake cooling ducts for motorsports use.
