The price for the M Performance Brake kit is $2,791.00 + $400 for the rear discs. So the total price is around $3,200 plus tax!!

$2k for front and rear on eBay from local BMW dealers. So that's $1200 off.

I'm still waiting for the coding info from my dealership. They sent me the information and quote for the M-Performance brakes and I had to explain that I wanted the 335i brakes. Will let you know when they get back to me.

If you were to buy an aftermarket Brembo BBK, they wouldn't be able to code for that.

So you're saying they don't need to code for the 335i brakes?

I'm not 100% certain on this but my logic tells me:

They don't even have an option to code for them. They can go in and code for the M Performance brakes but you don't really have that so they would probably prefer to just leave it as it is. I think when they go to code, its either "stock" or "Mperformance."

An interesting test would be, some people have driven after the MP install and no coding. If there is a noticeable difference in before and after coding, that would say a lot to me about other alternatives. If the difference is tiny, negligible even, then screw it and have the freedom to do aftermarket or 328 to 335 upgrades and not concern yourself with coding at all.

From what I've seen and read from other members, there isn't much of a difference after the coding. It seems like the proper bleeding of the brakes is what does it.

My gut tells me that coding can't make much of a difference here. It's the superior equipment that making the difference. Larger rotors and calipers baby!

I suspect the coding has something to do with the e-brake controller/balance...I'm positive the ECU has something to do with that, ABS, etc...

All those electronic gimmicry-items will be slightly different if you have lighter calipers and rotors on the receiving end.

The coding you do when you add the M Performance brakes are to update the DSC.

Dealership is still researching. Not sure I'll be able to get this done if they can't figure out the coding.

Coding isn't necessary. The reason it's necessary moving from the 335i brakes to the M Performance brakes is because rotor diameter increases. Because of this, the effective angular acceleration changes and needs to be re-calibrated for the same brake bias per wheel for regular braking and DTC.

The 335i brakes and 328i brakes share the same rotor diameter so this is not necessary for this swap. The changes are the pad compound and caliper.

Where are you seeing that 328 and 335 have the same rotor diameters? 335, off the top of my head has rotors about 1" larger, 13.4 vs 12.4-12.8" for the 328.

If that is true, then coding is basically optional for any brake swap. It makes sense though. In the past, I've known several people to upgrade to BBKs and never have to worry about coding.

I know cars these days are more sophisticated but at the end of the day, you press your brakes and your equipment reacts. Larger discs/calipers with higher quality pads are going to perform better. Coding or not.

So unsure what they actually did for coding, but a few annoying items were reset, all focused on personal settings:
1. 12h changed to 24h in the clock settings.
2. CA/Clicker lock became driver's side only (not all doors)
3. Lock beep was reset to 'beep' from silent.

So...clearly something was overwritten, not everything...annoying for sure.

That is what my dealer told me, also GetBmwParts says the same on their product page.
