Current offer...

2013 f30 335i
Msrp $51,520
Down payment $2,000 (incld taxes etc)
36 month
15,000 per year
Monthly payment $532

Picking up car today. Originally started with 36 month lease but dealer just called and said a 39 month lease would drop payment by $4 per month. Is that a realistic number of how much the payment should drop when going from 36 to 39? Just want to make sure I'm taking the better deal (or negotiate more if the 39 month offer should be less).

It's only a better deal if you need the car for those extra 3 months.

Not worth it if you are planning to return your car after lease due. Basically, you are paying the extra 3 month payment(3 x $532 = $1596) to lower $4 dollars each month($4 x 36 = $114). Those are still your money. It just sounds better that you saved $4 dollars a month.

The drop should be greater, no? My memory of more like $20/mo or so. Of course as other posters have pointed out, you have the add'l annual registration to factor in to any savings...

There is always a sweet spot for leasing, BMW has a much more favorable money factor and residual for either 36 or 39 usually...Right now its 36 for the 3 series

Based on Dec. program changing from 36 to 39 months should reduce payment about $30/month.

Use www.bmwconfig.com lease calculator.

Consider NOT doing the down payment (cap cost reduction) and changing to the multiple security deposit option. Dealers don't advertise it since it takes away from their bottom line.

That's a last minute tactic to try and get more out of you.

Like sharp mentioned, you're spending an extra $1600 to save $115 over 3 years?

I just signed this week - the difference between 36 and 39 for me was approx $20 with MF 0.00130 in both cases and the residual 60% vs 61% not a big deal one way or the other

I took the 39 month option to get me into the spring so I can do an ED without snow in Germany come spring 2016. I'd have had to extend the 36 lease 3+ months anyways, so I figured why not save the $20/payment all the way thru.
