BMW Performance exhaust too quiet?

I ordered the exhaust a little over a week ago, and just had it installed yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I love the exhaust and how it crackles, but it just seems to be a little quieter then I had hoped. You can hear it during low speeds, but when you speed up the wind sound is louder than the exhaust (windows down). Does it have a break in period? And is anyone else think this too?

for my 335 it was definitely quieter than i wanted when i got it, now it sounds better. it took 2000miles to break in.

i ordered it with the 328 i am getting and hoping it sounds good. i do expect it to need 2-3000miles for break in. never heard it in person(for n20) the youtube videos i have seen sound good and i am pretty sure it will sound better than stock since i owned a n20 328 and it was pretty silent.

Can you post a video?

How much louder would you say it is now? And it does sound good, especially when you turn it on. It sounds just like it does in the youtube videos, and it's way nicer than stock, because the stock exhaust had no noise at all. And I can try to post a video, but I don't think it'll come out well because i'll be recording with my Iphone. But it's sounds exactly like this:

[u2b][/u2b]It gets louder and needs about 1000 to 1500 miles to break in. I personally love the sound but it is on the conservative side. You can really hear it at wot or if outside the car but with windows up its nice and quiet and zero drone which is great with wife and baby in the car.

i'd say on a scale from 1-10 for my 335 exhaust with 1 being silent and 10 being str8 pipe, i would say the stock exhuast is a 4, mperformance when i first got it was a 5 and now its a 6.

happy i got it, noticeable when i want it to be and civil most of the time no drone on the highway.

i wish it was louder but i ordered it again for the 328 knowing my experience with it on the 335.

Would you say that the exhaust for the N20 will sound like this? Because that clip made it sound perfect

Performance exhaust sounds really good but it is not considered one of the louder ones, it will provide the same sound level as the Active Autowerke. If you are looking for a loud exhaust Remus/GTHaus is your best bet

Did you make the "golf-tee" mod? Makes a huge difference.

One pipe (driver's side on 335) is on an electrical solenoid (was vacuum on the E90). You can rig it so the flapper is always open. Exhaust sounds 100% better on start-up, cruising, and deceleration. "Golf Tee" came to be called such in the E90 days and the vacuum solenoid. Unplugging the vacuum hose and inserting a golf tee prevented you from throwing a code and the flapper defaulted to "open". On the F30, you need to either:
1) unplug the solenoid, it stays open, and you might throw a code
2) pull the spring that is between the solenoid and flapper and use a wrap of baling wire around the exhaust to hold the flapper open (what I did). Car sounds great, solenoid don't know the difference.

If you drive in Sport+ isn't the flap always open? Hence no need for "golf tee" mod?

Sorry, no. There are posts from others (YouTube for sure). I definitely don't have a "before" but sure could do an after.
