It is an odd comparison but strangely I'm looking at either golfs or 3 series as well ATM (or an e class but I think I'd get some really strange looks being in my early 20's haha) |

That is not a problem, the 335d can now be fixed in that respect.

@Jds990
4 and a half years ago I was comparing a GTD against the previous model 3 Series (E90). I wound up with a 320d in SE guise. Even with the soft suspension I found the handling more engaging than the equivalent age GTD. BMW Balance and poise vs GTD scruff of the neck fun... Performance, I thought, was directly comparable. Now, I would suggest that the F30 320d MSport is more comparable with the GTD. However, it is much more refined than the E90 I compared to the 2009 GTD. I have the F30 330d now, it's a different beast again, the 6 pot smoothness and grunt are wonderful. However, this is set against short run thirst. So, consider your usage. If your journeys are short, less than 15 miles then you will in most likelihood get notably better economy from a smaller engine. It's the long runs, greater than 30 miles, where the gap narrows. My E90 320d is 1mpg better on paper, though with a 12 mile commute it beats the 330d by 8-10mpg. On longer runs this is down to 2-5mpg. Something else to figure into your costs... As @Teaston has suggested the Adaptive Suspension is an option well worth considering. I have it and really enjoy the Jekyll and Hyde nature it enhances in the 330d. Sport mode brings out loads of grip and great body control for a larger car, whilst still allowing softly damped luxury in comfort mode. However, as noted above, you are certainly aware of the size and weight if the car. Especially in the softer setup. I'd consider the GTD for mostly shorter runs and 'ragging it'. Though, if any distances are involved, the 330d is far superior.

Hmm adaptive suspension , but doesn't it already have 3 settings for comfort sport and Eco which changes the suspension settings? What does the adaptive bring to the table?

I prefer the passive suspension, it sits half way between the soft and firm settings of the adaptive, but it about the best for the spring rate. Springs on both are the same. |

It's coming out a lot cheaper, 5k down and 288 per month for an e220 amg auto and its got a big big big boot which I will take advantage off, I'm hoping it drives well. |

Hmm +1 a bit, wrongly it is what I think when I see an E class. Still different kind of car to an F30, very classy indeed the mercs and there are GREAT deals around right now on some of their models.
