I don't plan on running a front plate unless I get a ticket at which time I'll do the tow hook. My car is in a garage at work & home. If I go out, I park it in a garage, restaurant lot or shopping center lot where cops have no jurisdiction. I never park on the street.

Nope. These stories of adhesives damaging the paint are a bit far fetched. At least when dealing with the factory paint. Anything that's been resprayed is another story. In that case, it's not so much the paint as the prep that was done prior to painting...

Tow hook mount on M sport. It's euro but you get the idea.

Just threw this on today on my 1 week old car. From the front I think it looks ok, from the side I think it looks horrible but I have no choice but to get it on and like the OP and many others I dont want the bracket drilled. I'm USAF and already got called out once coming on base and I'm only 1 of 2 EB M sports on base so they'll get me soon. Also here in Italy you do not want to be pulled over...especially being a American. So you can't play the game like in the states.

Quick iPhone pics...

The tow hook plates look like SHIT! There are days where being in Pennsylvania with no front plate requirements makes me feel good

I understand not wanting to drill holes in your bumper, but mounting the plate off center on the tow hook just looks wrong to me.

I have always liked the looks of Euro-plates [especially on BMW's and Porsche's] in the US since it makes the car look more.....Euro! I like my plate mounted front and center just like it comes if you pick up your car from the Welt. And just like the F30 M Sport at the top left corner of this page.

I could have used two sided tape to mount it but that didn't seem secure enough. I drilled two small holes and used a purpose made plate holder and I love the way it looks. We have a front plate law in Cali and I haven't been bothered yet.

I do agree it does look a little off as Alpine stated having it off to the side. I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it on or go with a different set up and just mount it in the middle.

Unfortunately, your euro plate is just as illegal as no plate in California. In which case, I would much rather go plateless. In fact, your euro plate probably attracts more attention from the PoPo. The fact that you haven't been bothered yet is the same fact that people with no plates haven't been bothered yet.... and that is that most cops won't bother pulling someone over for no plate. Most front plate tickets are "added on" as a fix-it ticket to more major infractions. However, you will probably get a fat ticket from the parking attendent if you park in some cities though.

You are lucky to live where you don't need a front plate. Some of the tow hook plates look better than others and it's subjective. To me, ANY plate on the fron of this car looks like shit so it's a preference of which one looks better or worse.

I think the skene design holder is also a fine choice. You still have to drill but you don't see it because it's on the underneath side of the bumper.

For me, even though I think the plate looks better centered, the tow hook plate is easier to put on and take off for those times when I KNOW I don't need to worry about getting a ticket plus I don't have to get my drill out. The tow hook also doesn't disrupt the integrity of the majority of the front bumper when it's on. To each his own but both have good and bad.

All 100% correct, but I'll take my chances!

California DMV is now selling retro plates for current registrations. If they were smart they would add a line of Euro plates and get some extra revenue.

DMV. Smart. Haha!

Seriously though, I might sign up for one of those black/yellow letter plates. We'll see if enough people sign on for it to happen. However, since the plates will most likely be reflective, I doubt the core audience for the retro plates will be onboard.
