Very cool... i wonder how much the time would drop with a simple tune? I have to imagine enough to squeak past the S6 which is the car just above it in their overall list of tested cars (it was 3.5 seconds faster roughly, and that car is 75k +). Someone with a Stage 1 BMS tune go lap VIR and report back !!!

You'd probably shave off more time with a real set of R compounds than you would just by adding more power.

Exactly. A tune wont do shit without grip and a driver LOL.

But cmon those camaros have 150+ and 250+ hp. They actually look nice but maybe they should get rid of the chevy emblem on the steering wheel. Maybe something about camaro or zl1 or what not.

Just a set of pss would drop the time 1 to 1.5 seconds instead of the run craps

Any chance Chevy or C&D made sure the 1LE had "worn" tires so it wouldn't best the ZL1's lap time? Sounds fishy that C&D says it would have been a sub 3 min lap if only they could have found some fresh rubber somewhere.

3.5 seconds is an eternity on a 3:00 lap. It's going to take more than a tune to catch it. The 335i is a fantastic car, but the S6 justifies it's price tag well.

Nice videos. Really impressed with the Camaros, although I probably wouldn't drive either one. However the upcoming Chevy SS that is based on the same platform is a different story. If it even comes close to the 1LE it will be a beast of a sedan.

I found the S6 times to be sad. Specially when you read the article on it. They did not like driving it. Lots of understeer.

The section of Vir they raced is horsepower driven. Lots of straight always, so a tune would have made a difference that and some RE-11's , P-SS, or V12's.

the VIR track definitely favors handling above all else to get a good lap time, which is why the boxster, and RS5 beat some much more powerful cars. The difference between the 335, and S6 was 3.4 seconds with 120hp separating the two. On the other side the diff. between the M5 and S6 was 4.6 seconds with 140hp between the two. So I think the 335 did quite well, and when the M335 comes out it should set an impressive time. On the other side the M5 being 4.6 seconds quicker than the S6 is huge, and im not sure adding 140hp which what the RS6 will be is enough to make up almost 5 seconds.

I definitely don't mean to take anything away from the 335i. I'm just not sure the person who posted that comment appreciates how much of a gap 3.5 seconds is.

if just a single BMW authorized mod was allowed on the 335i, which one would have had the most positive impact?
  • BMW M Performance Suspension Kit
  • PPK
  • Big Brake Kit
  • Better tires
  • M Performance Decals
  • Something else?

Decals always make it faster. Especially if it had the ///M emblem.

Whats the point of testing 2 Camaros? They should have picked another car in the 30k-60k range

If I wanted/needed faster lap times, I'd just buy one of those Camaros instead of a 335i that I had to then modify even further. I wonder if one of those two Carmaros would make a decent daily driver.
