What is Anthracite Headliner? (and a few more questions)
A couple of questions that I couldn't find proper answers after googling.
- I kind of know what Anthracite Headliner looks like from photos on google, but what is the purpose? Who cares what the ceiling/roof looks like? Is there something that I am completely missing here? - What is accelerator kick-down? I read this in the f30 manual. - What are parking lights? I have them on my Honda but never used 'em. In the F30, you can turn them on individually (left or right side). Is this useful to have proper lighting conditions for parking cameras? I didn't get the Parking package, how is it useful then? Thanks |

Anthracite Headliner is just a matter of taste. I have it in my E90 and I prefer the dark feel when in the car. My interior is two tone Oyster/Black and I like the anthracite to tie it all together vs the typical grey headliner.

When parking on a street at night, you must use your parking lights unless you are parked near an all-night street light. Street lights that do not remain on for the entire night are marked by a white and red band. You only turn the lights on the side of the car that faces the center of the street, I guess to save the battery. |

In kick-down mode, the transmission will downshift as much as safely possible and then hold the gear until you hit the redline when it will shift again. In other words, you will get maximum possible acceleration. Zoom! |

Hi all,
I got a couple of questions regarding Anthracite headlining. What type of material is it? Is it the same material as the standard 'light-grey' found on most F30s? Or is it suede like alcantara? Instead of starting another new thread, I thought I will just bump this old thread again! Hope you guys don't mind. Thank you! |

Just color difference, no texture difference.

I like it because it's dark and feels "cool" with the sunroof shade closed and tinted windows. In other words, not "bright". Opening said sunroof shade (also tinted) provides more than enough light for when I want that (like to help heat the car on a cold day).

So you're saying your oyster headliner is anthracite? Where did you get that info?
Anthracite is related to the color..option code 775 On the new 7 series in the Interior Design Package you can get: Anthracite (black) Alcantara headliner Or Alcantara headliner in upholstery color Alcantara is the fabric in that case |

In my experience with BMW, anthracite refers to the color. It's a version of black like anthracite coal. It don't know why it isn't schwartz, as I have never seen a choice between anthracite and schwartz - they seem to use one name or the other, I guess they are not exactly the same, but they don't offer both - maybe it just sounds higher end to make the option sound fancier

Back before anthracite headliner became pretty much standard, you got grey or beige headliners unless you got M or sport package that included "anthracite" (black) headliner. They were all the same texture cloth, just different colors grey, beige or anthracite.

I can't speak to what the Modern Line came with, as I didn't start shopping for my car until that was discontinued. But you say your Modern Line has an Anthracite Headliner, but in a different color--do you have the window sticker that confirms you have this feature? Quote:
**************************** Here's a thread that compares all the features between Modern Line, Lux Line and Sport Line, and there is no reference to an Anthracite Headliner in the Modern Line section: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=598632 Last edited by tex2670; 06-28-2016 at 12:14 PM.. |

I'm sure it's upgraded from "normal", but it's not anthracite: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=598632 |

Honestly it looks and feels identical to both my other car which does have coded anthracite as well as loaners I've had. Anyhow it's easier to clean and I prefer the lighter color as it opens the cabin space more. Cheers

Anthracite Gray was the exterior color of my first bimmer, a '77 320i. I actually like that shade of gray over the more recent gray options, wish they would offer it again.
