Dealer Prep: a cleaning, a little shine (essentially, as my wife would say a manny/peddy), remove transport blocks, check all fluids, the usual run-down of check the box items.

What to look for - well after the glazed over look disappears from our faces... we should look for marks on/in the paint, check the interior, is everything you ordered there, did you get your mats, rims are scuff/mar free, did you get the name of your service adviser, overview of the stuff you are unsure of (having viewed all the video's on line 9x's, I will probably explain to the CA how all the stuff works) and finally, a clear exit route to the nearest freeway to open that puppy up!

I read somewhere ( either this site or bimmerfest ) a list of about 7 things to do when getting your car for the first time.

Sorry I don't have link but I bet a search will bring it up.

Something's I remember..

Test Drive! Drive it around and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Make sure you get everything explained to you and set up (bmw assist if you have). I know sone dealers actually have "delivery guys" to sit with you and go over everything in your new toy.

One was check for rust under driver seat but everything I've seen is don't have them replace as the door sills get scratched to sh!t. It also seems like 2013 builds don't have the issue

Full tank of gas?

ASS TSB if you want the fix. ( IIRC fixes auto start/stop so it doesn't default to last user? )

Does the 800# generally update to in transit within a decent timeframe (ie: 48 hours) or do some people experience "waiting a shipping vessel" messages and their cars are already stateside?

Haha yeah - seems as if they're both docked at bremerhaven...Didnt realize how enourmous these ships are until I started tracking them. Legit floating skyscrapers.

The status of my car changed BACK to "at port and waiting for a shipping vessel" after it's unloaded at Baltimore...

I think it's a bug...true it's "at port" but that's a different port

Best as I can tell it is truly hit or miss Example, my car was at port in NY/NJ on Saturday WW site shows they released it to BMW on Sunday, and "delivered from NY" which means it is at VDC. 800# witch (she gets really cranky if you do not speak clearly) says in transit as does the website (neither have it at port or "Finishing touches"). Spoke to the Business Manager at my dealer (CA was out) and they show a scheduled delivery of 4/12, but expect it 4/10 as it has already cleared the VDC.... what does this all mean Honestly, it means I picked a bad time to stop sniffing glue and at this point, it's been 7 weeks so what the hell is another few days of torment. I feel like the M&M in the commercial where he says "It hurts, but I kinda like it"

I will admit, once it arrives it'll be disappointing. I mean no more anguish, no more searching every bleeping webiste known to BMW every 10 minutes, 7 days a week, 18 hours a day plus that one look at 3am because I woke up thinking about the car, no more 800# witch, no more nothing. Although the therapist I had to hire for this process will be greatly disappointed as there will be no more billable hours
