2017 430i Loaner Convertible

I brought my 2016 M235i in for service and I received a 2017 430i convertible loaner. This is my first time driving a convertible and I was pleasantly surprised how nice driving top down is. It is definitelty slower with the 4 cylinder, but I think I was having just as much fun with top down. Do people with convertibles enjoy it in the long run? I'm thinking I may get this as my second car, but I'm worried due to little storage space. Again, I already own another coupe. It's me, my fiancée, and dog. She said she thinks this could work as second car, and we aren't planning to have kids for another 5-7 years.

I've had a 235 coupe and now have the 235 convertible. Had a brand new 430 convertible rental car in Miami for 4 days. I didn't mind the smaller engine as much as I thought I would even on a bigger and heavier car. Really liked the 430 quite a bit. That said I am not a fan of folding hard tops the trunk is a pain in the butt as a result of the top storage. Think the 235/240 is more practical if you don't need the extra room in the back seat. I have GF and dog in my 235 all the time and it's fine. You could probably save yourself some coin and check out the 230 as well, I've driven one of those for a few days as well and for a second car for the lady it's more than quick enough.

Top down is really, really nice when the weather is warm. If you install the wind screen you can really drive windows up windscreen up down to about 50 before it gets uncomfortable.

I LOVED my verts (E36 M3 verts) in FL. When it was 85+ degrees though you'd sweat like a manbearpig but for 5-6 months out of the year it was great. Having two kids though and basically zero trunk space was no bueno, plus I need a manual tranny

Got a 428i Vert loaner once as well and it's pretty nice to drive around with the top down. I didn't find the seats comfortable at all though. Maybe I needed more time to really adjust the seat? It seems like the seats have tighter side bolsters than even the M3 seats. It was very uncomfortable. I did enjoy the seat vents though.

Depends on the convertible. I had a 428 vert as a loaner and I could not get over how slow it was

I had a DCT Z435 for 3 yrs and it was ok. I drove it about 50% of the time with the top down (was in socal) but in the end, I didn't like that it was a street only/touring type car.

Maybe if I got a old E86 Z4M, or S2K instead, or even a Boxster S I would have like having a convertible a lot better

As of right now, I wouldn't get a convertible, and would get the fixed roof version of the car, and use the extra $ saved for performance add ons (instead of the performance decrease from the drop top)
