nice.
good know.
i wish someone would post up all the real numbers for all the series. it would totally help with the dealing process.

if these numbers are transparent i feel many people will not feel ripped off as much.

You can't have access to these deals anyway so why work yourself up??

I've never seen anyone post the "tissue" price of a car before. Maybe if someone ragequit a dealership they could post something like that.

I've often wondered about who makes more on deals, the manufacturer or the dealer? I've always leaned towards manufacturers since the rebates always come out of their pocket I figured they would have the most wiggle room.

For instance a car that:

Stickered for 65
Invoice was 59
Dealer paid 51, 52?
Cost the manufacturer 40-43? to produce.

you would be surprised how little it costs to make a 50k$ car.
and you should start your guess at less than half of that price.

dealer "book value" is such a scam.

compare kelly blue book trade-in prices with edmunds trade-in prices.

I do hope Tesla ends up getting other manufacturers to sell direct to public... so tired of dealer games.

I have a 428i i'm picking up in Munich in a few weeks with a $50k MSRP negotiated to ED invoice +$500, buy rate money factor, and $0 down. The payment is $513 post tax. It simply isn't possible to get a 428i (with any options) for $420/month without a ton of money down.

If you took my same deal and made it on a base, no line 428i and excluded tax the payment would be $399. Keep in mind, you need to go to Munich to get it that low.

I have a friend who works for Honda and said the physical build cost of a Acura TL is below $10k. Obviously there is a lot more than that in R&D and marketing.

Yes because if you don't have a tool in your hand, you obviously aren't doing anything.

I'm sure you're right, I just threw those numbers out there.

Considering that BMW AG foots all warranty work and "free maintenance", BMW assist and all the other stuff they give out "for free" and they still turn out record profits I wouldn't be surprised if the total unit cost (I mean TOTAL--R&D costs/units produced, legacy benefits included in man hours, etc) for a mass produced vehicle like a three series was only in the 15-25k range. Then depending on the dealer's volume I'll bet they get them for up to 10-15k under the phony "invoice" number.

That's not true! My dad used to work for bmw! We have a diesel x5 for $420 a month. Few years back a z4 35is was 299 for employees. Bmw pays the dealer money and lowers rates to have employees drive their cars. Sometimes over 13k below invoice not below msrp.
Exactly. 4 series for 420 employees is 100% real. Trust me.

It must be nice to love what you do for a living!

As far as the employee discounts go if I was in charge I'd try to get my guys the cars at cost--the financing side will still make money on the deal. It's all advertising and ensures that everyone there at least knows SOMETHING about the cars, at least enough to work with customers (especially those new to the brand experiencing a lot of the tech for the first time) with their initial questions and orientation.

For example when my wife first got her X3 she went to the dealership for some clarification on some sort of connectivity issue between her phone and iDrive and didn't even get to the service department. Since even the girl at the front desk that answers phone all day drives one of the cars (or in this case, the exact car) she was able to tell my wife exactly what to do.
