Drivetrain malfunction - no clear fault
Hello
I have a 2015 plate bmw f32 428i manual with 54k miles on the clock. 2 weeks ago a drive train malfunction showed up on my screen and within the week I took it to a garage with a obd scanner with bmw software which showed “heavy damage to clutch”. I thought this was strange as I can’t feel any significant issues with the clutch and neither could the mechanic. The codes were cleared and within 2 weeks and 300 miles the codes reappeared Once again I can’t feel any changes to the clutch. No slipping , noise or initial performance issues (although full performance isn’t permitted with the fault still present) Has anyone else with an f32 or with the N20 engine ever had a similar issue and could tell me if there is a genuine issue with my clutch or if it is simply an electrical error Thanks |

If you can't feel a problem it's probably a sensor or wiring issue.

Happened to me on my f34 - N20, reset code a few times, got the clutch damage warning and seriously damaged code, something to that effect. Two warning codes, car drove well, but after a while in 3rd gear shift; got a slight judder and code popped up.
Got the clutch and dual fly mass wheel replaced. Tried to get away with clutch only but mechanic showed needed both. Went for Luk which is OEM. Maybe you want to see if codes comes back after reset and fingers crossed just a false code error..saw a mini tech note if the issue didn't return maybe a false error code!.. |

Cheers for the reply’s everyone
Yeh the codes that appeared were 1D3101 and 1D3201 No modifications under the bonnet Mechanic suggests that the clutch is likely worn. Luckily I have BMW’s own extended comprehensive warranty and should likely cover for the part if required. I’m taking it back to the garage that showed the fault codes to have another look. I heard Luk or Sachs’s are decent clutch brands so that and the dual mass flywheel will be getting replaced potentially Keep yous all posted |
