I drive two days a week, need convincing to by an F30

OK here's the deal, I have an e90 335 now and I love it, however my lease is up. I had every intention of leasing a new F30 335 M-Sport but then a couple weeks ago my company moved and I'm now taking the train to work very day. Now I know you're probably saying "great go buy a weekend toy!" however, I still need the car to be reliable for long trips and needs to haul lots of stuff every couple months. I completely fill my car with seats folded down at least 5 times a year.

With that in mind I'm having a hard time justifying the $600/month car payment if I'm only driving it a couple of days/week. My worry though is that I feel like if I downgrade I will forever regret it and wish I got the BMW. Help me rationalize the purchase.

Addressing a couple questions asked thus far

1. Don't want to buy current car as the buyout price isn't great/oyster seats were a mistake as I'm always cleaning them.

2. Don't want to go cheap car route because I like driving too much. I have considered a GTI as a possible "step down" car.

How about F31? Very practical and still fun to drive.

Well, only you can really justify whether or not you can part with the $600p/m but in saying that, I drive my 328 maybe 10 days a month generally just to get around but every time I'm home and I do get to drive it, I love it.

If you're going to get another car regardless and the monthly cost isn't too far off from the 335, I'm pretty sure you could stretch that little bit more and make yourself happy.

Plus I'm, sure there are plenty of threads on how amazing the new 335's are and how happy the owners are with it. You could be one of those guys! Haha.

Modestly equipped, you can certainly get a 335 lease with 10k miles/year down to the low $500s or mid $500s if you want it pretty loaded ... I know its not that much less than $600 but over 36 months its something.

2 days a week?
If you have a long term goal (like $1,000,000 in the bank by 35), then I would just lease a chevy volt for pennies (they are literally giving them away at this point), and call it a day.

If you want to have fun, buy the E90 335i, get a Procede/Dinan/PPK tune, and have a ton of fun.

You don't have to spend $55k on a car for it to not be a downgrade. Just buy out your 335 or something.

Then again, when I bought my Z3M I had no commute and still managed to rack up 20k miles in a year!

335's can be had for under 500 if you pay tax up front and keep options modest. Don't need a stripped down model, but modest. The N20 328 is also a good option for even better value and still plenty of fun

If i was in your situation i would probably just get a 328.

For me personally... my justification for getting a 335i was that i knew i was going to driving very OFTEN, around 40k miles a year often, so i figured I need to have a car i actually love being in and driving, life's too short.

Also, i wonder if you can just lease the car with 5k miles a year, the payment would be really low then. doubt they offer than kind of lease anyway.

If seems to make sense, if you agree to a 15k 3 year lease, you should be allowed to pay 400$ a month for a nice f30 335i\\

Buy a toy and rent a car when you need to haul stuff. Or look at the 320i or the X1 if you dont want to stepdown too far.

This. With DHP & M Sport of course. The 4-banger, while it sounds a bit like crap compared to the N55, is still tons of fun to drive.

The F31 has to be the most well-rounded car in the lineup IMHO.

I'm a weekend driver and still rack up 10k/yr

It's important to have a car that you enjoy to drive for the 2 days

Get yourself a 328i if you are concern about costs. Plus apply all leasing incentives that they have ex. loyalty $750 and the first month payment of up to $500. Lower your MF since you have the relationship with BMWFS

Holy @*&! dude that's a lot of driving...so powertrain warranty gone after year 1.25?!?! Assuming 30 mi/gallon and $3.5/gallon that's nearly $5k/yr on gas

I'm assuming you're getting miles reimbursed from your employer? So on year 2.5 after you've driven 100k how much is the car worth? With that kind of depreciation I'd just get an ecobox with good tech for 25k.

i try not to think about the gas costs! no reimbursement unfortunately, and at lease end I simply pay 10,000 x .20, so 2000 at end of lease for extra miles.

Oh sorry! I wrote it wrong, not 40k a year, 40k in 3 years!

yea 40k a year is iNSANE!

Haha, ok, that is more reasonable. I was assuming you were a traveling salesman of sorts or a truck driver

Yup. Don't look for a reason to waste money. That's what the salesman should be doing!

M Performance exhaust (or any aftermarket exhaust) fixes that up nicely.
