335i brake malfunction

Guys,

Last evening crawling in the Atlanta traffic, I hit the brakes at a stoplight. And this strange feeling hit me - the car wasn't slowing down. I wasn't tailgating, so I had enough time to even look under the steering to see what I was pressing down on. It was the brake pedal and it was rock hard. I drove off the road to avoid rear ending the car in front of me and yanked at the hand brake to bring the car to a halt. Luckily no damage to the car or me.

I looked at the forum and found there was a recall for 2012-2014 N20 engine powered cars. Has anyone else with N55 affected by this?

I went to the dealership and obviously they didn't find any issue. To add to the insult, they charged me a diagnostic fee - i am still under warranty.

I am glad you are fine. Loss of breaking power (vacuum loss?) is a very serious issue and it's puzzling why BMW dealer did not identify any codes which may have bene generated.

What you are describing is very similar to the recall affecting N20 or N26 equipped vehicles. Brake vacuum pumps can fail like any other mechanical part.

Is there another BMW dealer you can visit? Charging diagnostic fee for a vehicle under warranty is also questionable.

Thanks guys for the comments.

Anyway, is anyone on this forum affected by the earlier N20 recall? What were the symptoms, resolution and did it re-occur?
