Smugness?
After a particular nasty week of icy weather those who scoffed at me buying a set of winters are very quiet...
Although Lancashire escaped the "Snowbomb" its been pretty treacherous on my commute and the feeling of smugness as all around slip and slide is well worth the £500 outlay. Keep safe folks |

Smugness..
Driving around the West Midlands during one of the worst snow falls in years and themperatures sitting around -9c with an easy 6-8 inches of snow (it was about a foot in places). Towing a neighbour off his drive, giving work mates a lift to work. Oh and using the exact same tyres the car was deliver with PZeros, thereby saving £500 on new tyres - smug |

I've been off the smugness scale after being the only one in Work on Monday, especially after a colleague - just one week ago - was adamant that winter tyres were completely irrelevant and that youy just needed to drive to the conditions.
Today was the first day he could make it in in his Merc

Smugness.
Using my 10 year old Mazda with a pair of winters on the front @ £60. Not worrying about all the other clowns sliding towards me.

It's not recommended to mix summer and winter tyres on a car as you have vastly different levels of grip front to back when manufacturers recommend all 4 corners should be set up the same. You may well find you invalidate your insurance by doing this as well.

Really?. Front to back has different levels of grip anyway.

We've had more snow over night and during this morning. That's now almost a week of snow on the ground. Yesterday was the worst for conditions, rain fell on frozen compacted snow, even winter tyres were at the limit. I'd like to see the "summer tyre warriors" braking on the surface down my lane. |

If there is an opposite to smug that is me - lovely 4x4 sat on the drive and using a 14 year old Pug 206 in the snow so I dont get the nice one damaged...and because my station parking permit is restricted to one car!
will take the Audi out at the weekend. |

The roads up past Telford heading to Whitchurch etc and local around here were untreated but quite passable. Far too many people drive the same 365 days of year, it's not even driving to conditions, it's just complete lack of thinking by some people. |

Where I live the council don't tend to grit our minor rural roads, but they do fill some grit bins. This leads to some very strange road conditions where you drive from ice, onto a gritted surface and back to ice at random points, depending on where people have bothered to sprinkle the grit. It does make for an exciting drive.
So just like the first cuckoo signalling the start of spring, the first car of the season to slide through the stone wall on a particular bend signals the start of winter. The farmers who own the wall don't bother rebuilding until the spring, since at least 4 or 5 will hit it. I guess they charge them all for the damage and make quite a profit... |

I've driven extensively in Iceland and they put studded tyres on all 4 wheels, it's not just about the driven wheels its about stopping and going round corners having the same level of grip on each corner. |

Well I don't live in Iceland or Finland and i rather drive a FWD car with winters just on the front, than no winters at all. Because I drive to the conditions I need forward grip. Not some much corner grip, bacause I've moderated my speed.

taken from Continental website Can I Mix Tires? As a general rule, tires should not be mixed on any vehicle unless specified as acceptable by the tire or vehicle manufacturer. Drivers should avoid mixing tires with different tread patterns, internal constructions or sizes (unless front and rear staggered sizes are specified by the vehicle manufacture), and use identical tires on all of their vehicle's wheel positions in order to maintain the best control and stability. Additionally, drivers should never mix winter tires with all-season/summer tires, or mix run-flat tires with non-run-flat tires. |
