Does it rub on the plastic arch liner or the metal arch itself?

Just for you, I went in and checked to see where the rubbing is occurring.. So when turning the wheel to the max it rubs deep in the front liner (Wheel turned into body) as it had light scratches showing that's where rubbing occurs. But as far as the top of the liner there where no signs on on the driver side, but when I checked the passenger side I could see behind the metal arch of the fender there's a black tire scuff. Again its only happened once because I hit a deep pothole and that was the side that dipped into it. Ever since then I try avoiding them and haven't had rubbing since. (On a lowered car, you should be avoiding potholes away lol)

Just to put it into perspective since lowering back in December I've only rubbed a handful of times and I'm not too concerned about it.

But if its going to be a concern for you, you may want to go for smaller diameter tires like 235/35/19 & 265/30/19 or narrower tires 225/40/19 & 255/35/19.

I was trying to take a picture of the inside of the arch of the fender but camera was not cooperating.

So I decided to try to get the tires to rub again, I took my car to my friends apartment complex since there's alot of speed bumps and couldn't get them to rub and I was going a little hard on them. Seems like maybe only a deep pothole and turning on a steep driveway is the only way they will rub which is seldom.

Mine's similar. Rubs on the front wheel arch lining. But worse when reversing with steering turned left.

Not a big issue. And it doesn't seem to be doing any damage to the lining...yet.

I wouldn't go down to a smaller tyre width, the tyres are already at the min recomended width for the rim size at 235 front.

@arok99 thanks man for those pics - really helpful!

It would seem based on what yourself and @tekuk are saying that the rubbing is not on any metal arch parts or the physical suspension components - simply the plastic arch liner? Correct?

My preferred tyre size is most definitely 235/40 & 265/35 as any smaller than that & I think the stretch is just a tad too much!

I wonder if any camber would solve the running you are seeing?

It seems from all the comments posted in this thread that rubbing is only occurring on the 4 series, I haven't seen anyone with a 3 series rubbing on 235/40 and 265/35 rear.

It's not really black more like a gun metal look due to the smoked clear coat. If you remove the clear it would look silver underneath. And I believe OEM only come in this color, the silver are aftermarket replicas.

Yup rubbing is just on the plastic liner. I have a set of AC Schnitzer springs I am about to fit. It might change the camber. Not sure whether it'll make it better or worse.

I'm confident a lower profile tyre will resolve the issue.

Finally bought some 437m’s!

Straight off an M4 so 255/35 F and 275/35 R. Pilot Super Sports.

Initial plan just to get them on is to switch the 255/35’s from the fronts onto the backs. Then just buy some 225/40 PSS for the fronts.

Then when new tyres are needed go to 235/40 F and 265/35 R.

Has anyone got pics of 225/40 & 255/35 PSS? Is the stretch too much?

Congrats! Welcome to the club If you are going to be on Stock height for awhile you could get away with just putting on those sizes and not rub. The issue occurs when you lower the car, but because of the wider tires you will notice the tires sticking out. For some its not a problem visually but for others could be an eye sore, its really up to you. Just put them on and see if you like them.

I'm running 245/35/19 and 265/35/19 with Dinan springs and don't have any rubbing issues.

Yes you are correct
There are 2 OEM colors- Feric Grey & machined and either black or Orbit Grey & machined.

These colors are also available from replicas.

Yes, stretch is severe in front with that size.

I'm planning on changing the tyres to 235/35/19 and 265/30/19. Taking it down a profile should sort out the rubbing.

Love the wheels and the car drives a lot better.
Several have noted this issue with 235/35/19 fronts over the years.

Wondering if 245/35 solves this?

Wider tyre but a 35 instead of a 40?
