Are you getting a comparable price for the 435i CG against the IS 350? I wouldn't even consider those two cars in the same class, power & price wise.

My old 2015 428i GC was more enjoyable to drive than my colleagues 2014 IS 350 F Sport and it was just as fast. A 4 cylinder turbo has a better torque curve than a naturally aspirated V6, better mileage too. Lexus' V6 design (2GR-FSE) is really old, I might add.

I'd go for the 435i because it's a better car all round - especially the utility of that hatch which I miss quite a bit. If you want more reliable, look at another car besides an IS 350.

Keep it through the warranty period - then you are likely to be able to buy another extended beyond that. I would definitely do that with such an expensive (to repair) vehicle. Once you can no longer get warranties (usually over 100K Miles) I would move on to the next car.
This is what I'll most likely do.

Plus you cant beat the hatchback convenience. Just my 2 cents
That was one of my things in finding a 4 door, I wanted a hatchback and of course the IS didn't meet that requirement.

That's not too bad.

Yeah, the IS350 is around 35k, and the 435 GC is around 35-37k CPO. The hatch is one of my must haves and really the only cars that have this style is the BMW & Audi. The Kia is coming out with something similar but it doesn't hit home in luxury for me. BMW 435 GC hits all of my requirements and worst case, the warranty will give me peace of mind.

Thanks for all the input, I actually got more information from all that responded and it was beneficial. I'll update once I find one that I like.

Often you find that extra performance may come at the price of less reliability.

Understandable, it's a question of how much does it cost me, a couple grand a year vs many thousands of dollars. (Warranty would cover most of the timeline)

given that none of us have seen or inspected either car, this thread is a little crazy.

all things being equal, both cars will have an unknown number of problems, or they'll both be unbelievably reliable, or the one you buy will suck and the one you didn't buy will be bought by some lucky bastard, or vice versa.

the 435 GC is a hell of a car. buying it with a CPO warranty with under 30k miles on it is a brilliant idea to protect yourself. no pre-purchase inspection at 30k miles is going to uncover a problem that won't occur until after the warranty is up, and if bmw CPO'd it and it's got major problems with it, you'll be able to get out of the car easily.

I have a 2015 GC with 35k miles and overall it's been very reliable.

However I have had minor issues such as power hatchback motor, speaker buzzing at the rear on passenger side, and there are a few rattles and buzzes from the dash depending on outside temperature.

I had my speaker replaced under warranty and the replacement worked like a charm. You should have yours replaced as well.

Good information, I appreciate it. I will get it pre inspected by an independent shop before I buy.

Interesting, great to know to check for it or mention it during the pre purchase inspection.

2016 435 GC M-Sport with MPPk here with 52k and no issues to date. Car is rock solid, has no issues and is a blast to drive! This is my 5th BMW and my favourite. And, IMHO, is one of the best looking sport sedans/coupes on the road. The hatch is worth its weight in gold!

With BMW's, it's not the first 50,000 miles you have to be worried about, it's the next 50,000 miles.

According to JD Power Reliability Survey, BMW is really not far behind Lexus in reliability. In fact, it’s doing pretty good. Obviously, your mileage may vary but I think overall the data, while not perfect, speaks for itself.

I see people with 15 yrs old BMW, Mercedes and Audi living it up... I don't think those only have 50k miles on them probably running 200k lol. Why don't you ask the first person you see on the street with a 15 yr old BMW, Mercedes and Audi. They will give you an answer for sure😅
