Certainly not an afterthought - quite a predominant one I would imagine:
For us in the UK, the E90, E60 cup holders were brilliant weren't they? Any can, fast food drink, bottle, etc, would fit snug and secure. Plus it was cool the way they came out the dash! But the Americans - the were greatly displeased, because as we know, they do everything bigger. Food, drink, people, cars ("trucks"), sport, etc... So, what was normal to them drink wise did not fit the E90's European cup holders and my god did they kick up a fuss. So much so, BMW heard them and has made the F30 cup holders large enough to accommodate 2 fat bastards of a drink. So, as seen in many American F30 reviews, they are now happy (it's surprising how many reviewers make comment to them!!) and instead the Europeans are disgruntled. Being British though, we're not ones to kick up a fuss about such insignificant things and instead find other uses for them, such as storing the key!

1) Manual telescoping steering wheel. WTF. It does not matter how much you pump into the 3er, BMW will not offer you the electronic version. You can get this in cheaper cars for heavens sake.
2) I bought mine of the lot with only a few options missing, Driver Assist Plus, Active Cruise Control and Rear sunshade. Now I can live without these. The one option that was not available on this car was the HK sysytem. I have an X5 35i which also does not have the premium sysytem so I knew I was f****d. I did not realize how f****d I was until I got a chance to play around with the car. At least my X5 is a few notches lower than my G37 (waiting for lease to run out) with the BOSE audio. The X5 system is not great but it still holds its own in some respect. The base audio in the 335i is just horrible, they is just no other way to put it. However, I would buy my 3er all over again I just LOVE it |

1) The track advance button on the radio is the one button I use the most, and it's the furthest away from the driver.
2) The geometry between the pedals, seat, steering wheel, instrument cluster and rear-view mirror make it difficult for me to sit comfortably with good visibility inside and outside the car. 3) Under certain lighting conditions, the non-illuminated instruments are difficult to read quickly. 4) The engine is too quiet. Which is fine for cruising but it'd be nice to have a better sense of engine revs during acceleration. 5) Analog speedo. I know its tradition, but after living with a digital speedo for a decade it's amazing how much more readable the digital style is. (I do realize that the HUD includes a digital speedo but I don't have that package.) 6) The bass response of the standard radio is... "flubby" is the word I use. There's no punch, no impact. Just a whole lot of mid/low-frequency ressonance where there shound instead be kick, and an over-amplification of a narrow range of low frequencies. Great for talk radio and classical music, but sucks for my electronica. |

You can enable a digital speedo in the dash display by coding the car

Why not put the steering wheel heater control on the steering wheel? The current location isn't visible at all so you're never really sure you've hit it hard enough. You just have to wait to see if the wheel warms up. The E39 was better in this regard.

It's been mentioned, but with a kid in a booster seat in the back, the seat belt latches can be hard to get to when they sink into the seat.
I suppose it would also be nice to be able to set preferred driving mode upon startup. Personally, I get in the car, push the start button, push the button to deactivate ASS (because the dealership botched the re-coding), and push the button to go into sport mode.

My list. In general, this is pretty minor stuff:
a- trunk release is in the glove box b- the orange dashboard illumination reflects in my side window which is both distracting but also obstructs my side view mirror c- driver's side interior door panel handle doesn't fit me well ergonomically. On long trips I tend to bend my left left and rest it against the door. This is uncomfortable in the F30. d- the seatbelt warning chime e- the warning message on the top view camera (it actually obscures what's in front of the car, which is specifically what I'm looking to see in many cases) |

I've heard that you need to 'break the sound system in' I've had the car for about three weeks, sort of hearing a difference from the first day till now but nothing big yet. When it comes to the sound of the engine, get rid of the resonator and you'll get more grunting from the exhaust. Replace the portion with a straight pipe. |
