Wheel damage... curb rash or by tire installer?
Just had new tires installed on my 400M wheels and noticed damage on two of them that I don't think was there before. The tire shop is adamant that they did not cause it.
Looking for opinions here... is this curb rash or caused during tire installation? Last edited by jmanB45; 05-09-2023 at 05:32 PM.. Reason: Clarity |

it's definitely not curb rash as the outermost edge/lip is free on damage.
present day tire mounting machines, such as a Hunter, typically do not touch the part of the rim where damage is shown. if they were using a mounter/dismounter that is more archaic or the installer is not experienced, damage could be caused in a variety of ways. you can tell the rim was spinning or whatever was scratching it was rotating around the rim. |

This is one of those unfortunate instances where repairing the wheel and moving on may be the best option. Without before and after photos the burden of proof will be very difficult to establish. That's the lesson learned: photos and more photos.
