That's very quick mate! I will probably be putting a few miles on it over Christmas etc. visiting relatives, really glad I'll have it for then! Dealer has been good in getting it up to them so quickly to be fair. I will make sure to make time to post some pics!

I have just been told by my dealer that my car has left the port.
When i asked how long it will be at sea for she stated that it was due to arrive the first week of the new year!!!
Are these cars built in China by any chance?? 2 weeks at sea?
That surely cant be right, can it?

The date she gave you will have been the "expected delivery date" which is the date they say it will arrive at your dealer (not how long it's at sea) and is pretty much a random date that has some contingency built into it! My car landed in the UK yesterday for instance, and will be at the dealer tomorrow; however my "expected" date is 31st December (13 days off).

Don't worry too much about it; your car will be at sea for approximately 16 hours if it's on the normal UK crossing. So as long as it is on a boat as your dealer says, it should be in the UK tomorrow. The cars coming in to the UK are currently going straight to the dealers; so, I would phone BMW UK tomorrow to check when the status changes to 9630 (port of entry) or anything after that; then call your dealer to let them know the car has arrived at the port (you will likely find this out before them), and you'd really appreciate it if they could arrange transport to get it up to them ASAP, so you can collect before Christmas. Should be just about okay, as you're only max. 2 days behind mine, and I could have collected mine on Thursday.

They don't know what they're doing most of them mate, I spoke to my sales manager today and the difference between him and the sales guy was massive. He knew all about the cars, about the logistics of getting them to the UK, knew what he could and couldn't do, and did all he could to help; really efficient and knowledgeable. On my next car I will definitely try and deal with the sales manager if possible. In the meantime, I would ask to speak to your sales manager for any updates, they're really the only ones who can get things done

I think I may be approximately a week ahead of the normal turnaround, perhaps due to it being relatively quiet with it being December etc.:-

Car was assigned build week 49 (w/c 03/12)
12/11 order placed with dealer
17/11 1200 scheduled for production (changes can still be made to the spec while at this status)
27/11 5055 confirmed by production control (locked in production now, all parts been ordered/gathered etc. for production of the car, changes can NOT be made from this point on, I was lucky and did a spec change [added HUD] just a few hours before my car went to this status!)
04/12 various status' inc. paintshop start, body shop start etc., so effectively the card started production on the Tuesday of the build week
05/12 official production date (completed)
05/12 8200 released to carrier
06/12 9000 departed plant
10/12 9605 pre-eu port of exit
13/12 9610 port of exit (Germany)
14/12 9620 at sea
16/12 9630 port of entry (UK)
17/12 9650 awaiting despatch to dealer

Looking forward to '9800 arrived at dealer' now, hopefully by Wednesday 19/12, with pick up on 21/12
Looking good Mark...

The status can either be instantly updated, or up to 2 days behind; doesn't seem to be any consistency to it! Still, if your car is presently at sea (at worst), if your dealer helps you out and sends their own transport to the port, you may still have it before Xmas...

Planning my day

Train from essex into london.
Breakfast
Buy my autocar that I normally get on wednesday but waiting untill tomorrow.
Train up to stoke and read my paper and autocar.
Pick the 330d up.
Head home, maybe via snowdonia and the evo triangle driving roads. (turns the trip home from 3.5 hours to 7 but should get some good pics)

saw an EB touring sport with 19's in my local dealers this morning and would almost certainly choose one over a saloon if I was ordering now. It is a lovely shape.

Thorne is a prep centre, up north near Doncaster I think. It used to be where cars came from the port to have the protective coating removed (that protects it while on the boat) and checking for damage etc. before then going on to the dealer.

However, my car didn't go to Thorne and went straight to the dealer, apparently cars often don't go there anymore, I doubt yours will.

9650 means it's waiting for a transporter to go to your dealer I think; have you spoken to your dealer to ask when it will be collected?
