Are the asterisks supposed to denote multiplication?

Eg, MSRP x 0.93 x 0.92 = Dealer Wholesale?

Yes, however:
MSRP x ~0.93 = Dealer Invoice (it is approximate because the accessories are not marked up by exactly 7%)
MSRP x 0.93 = ED MSRP
ED MSRP x ~0.93 = ED Dealer Wholesale

Awesome thanks!

Do you think I would get the USAA discount on top of that since I think it comes from a different pot of money? IE, offer $1,000 over invoice and then get the USAA on top of that.

Of course, however, I'd offer $500 over the invoice and then pull out the incentive (does not come from the dealer's pocket).
However, my understanding is that most incentives do not apply to the ED.

And to follow up on the dr335is comment, I really wasn't looking to get a deal at "invoice". All I wanted was clarity, which is amazingly difficult to get. I have bought lots of cars over many years (I have a geezer card in my wallet) and learned early on that if I thought that I got a "great deal", it was only because I was delusional. No auto dealership anywhere on the face of the earth is a charitable organization.
+1 Jason was awesome!! Just waiting for my car to get home now, boat lands 8/7 at Brunswick

ED MSRP x 0.93 does not equal wholesale in the case of my F31. Using that formula I calculated roughly $400 over wholesale. ED MSRP x 0.92 got me within $50 of wholesale price.

It depends on the options. Some options have the markup of less than 5%

I was talking about base price. Options are US MSRP x 0.91 and were all spot on in my calculations.

That is inaccurate. Not all options are the same markup.

Grand Blanc - maybe a little bit of negotiation

My recommendation - go outside of Michigan. California: David @ Steve Thomas / Sergik @ Valencia BMW / Roger @ Rusnak

When I inquired about that car they couldn't find it on their website for that price and wouldn't you know it when I refreshed the page the price was gone. I negotiated a good sale price with another dealer just for him to try and screw me on the financing with a money factor of 0.0017 and all sort of nonsense fees.

If anyone knows a no bs dealer that is willing to sell a car for ~$1k over invoice and doesn't try to add bogus fees and insane money factor and other such nonsense I'd love to know their name.

Thanks,
A frustrated car shopper
Nick Lagas at Herb Chambers Boston. NO BS. Great guy. End of story.

Thumbs up Weatherford BMW, Berkeley, CA

For those people in the Bay Area (or elsewhere, like myself), I had a really painless and positive experience with Danielle @ Weatherford BMW in Berkeley, CA.
Easy to deal with, on top of things - answering emails/text early in the mornings, on her days off, etc., even though I encouraged her not to reply on her day off.
In the end, the car was shipped to Dallas, TX, the shipper scratched my side rocker and Danielle and her team settled everything and immediately compensated me for the repairs and shipping.
Everything was done through emails or text and first time I talked to someone over the phone was when the finance department (it is a lease) called me to discuss tire protection and a few other options.
MF 0.0013, no dealer fees, monthly payment within a cent of my spreadsheet calculator!

Dumb question, did you actually do an ED or did you negotiate a price based on ED pricing?

+1

Greg Poland is the best in So Cal that I've dealt with. My current car is from him. I've done well in the past with Jon Shafer and have also leased from him. Unfortunately the last time dealing w Jon his dealership screwed things up so badly I will not use him again (as long as he's there).

Both of these SAs have a very deep reputation of making very strong and very simple deals if you know how to ask (invoice + pricing before incentives, buy rate mf, base stated residual).
