Px value?
Hi
For my 2014 335d Touring Msport+ with HUD and service pack. 39000 miles, immaculate. Against a 440i demonstrator priced at 42k, offered £17,400 px. Views?

I got £18500 in early august for an October part ex against a new car for my 2014 f31 rwd 330d, well spec'd with 35000 miles - which was about right according to Parkers. Of course you'll get more selling privately. Used diesel prices are tumbling however. WeBuyAnyCar's valuation of my car has fallen £2k in less than 3 months

As above my 435d has dropped £4k in five months according to autocars valuation site.
There's a reason for the diesel scrap page offers.

sounds like they do not want your business imo, BMW did get values very wrong in 2014, I ended up VTing the car, and the dealer was surprised when I didn't buy another....

Decide how much you are willing to put in/increase your monthlies and tell the dealer. It's then up to them whether they increase the trade in, reduce margin on the new car or negotiate a better finance package with BMW FS. This is exactly what I did trading the 12 month old X5 50d (trade in dropped from 48k to 42k!) - I said I wasn't interested in the value as I know they would forecourt it for 50K + The deal was done.

I agree PX values are only part of the story. But if they are low from the off. We are on the back foot.

Your car is EU5, which are the ones that there is talk of being a ban on in some city centres from as soon as 2019.
Looking at AUC and on Autotrader, part-ex price is probably about right, though it does also depend on what you're being offered off list price on the car you're buying. |

Generally speaking, Demo's have very little margin in them. It's the whole deal you need to look at, but you'll always get the best deal selling privately and negotiating down the new car.

Unless it's a blue performance 330d ..then the pre-2015 ones are also euro 6. I'm not seeing the drop in diesel car value I keep hearing about on 4 year 330d's in M-sport yet though unfortunately, looking around on auto trader they're still around the same price as 6 months ago |

Having said that I've been thinking about changing mine and if I do I'll almost certainly go the VT route with my existing car as it seems to be continuing to lose money as quickly as the finance balance is coming down. Downhill with a following wind I might just about be able to sell privately and cover the outstanding balance but why bother when I can VT and achieve the same result? Seems like I'll have no equity either way but with one option I just hand the keys back while with the other I have to deal with possible test pilots and the other potential hassles that go with a private sale. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind going the private sale route and have done so in the past with previous cars; however, unless there's something in it for me financially I don't really see the point! |

i thought i got the worst PX value for trying to trade in for an M4. My car was 3 year old 36k 435i with lots of options. highly desireble car. Gave me part ex of £17k and not a penny off on the M4. i happyly will try to sell privately now as i got £5k difference...

By VTing, you are paying half the car in a very short space of time. The cost per month of ownership is therefore very high. If you keep the car for longer the cost per month will obviously reduce. In my experience, the depreciation will slows down significantly after a PCP ends. It may take a year rather than months but that ths the way to minimise the "virtual hit of depreciation. People tend to panic just because their car is still on the steep part of the depreciation curve ahead of contract end time. |

I agree it's a different scenario if you want keep the car long-term but being honest I'm not even convinced my car will be worth the GFV when it reaches the end of its PCP agreement this time next year..... |

I have a 3 year PCP, when I enquired about trading it in, slightly less than 2 years in, it was already worth less than the GFV. It?s now coming in at over £3k less than GFV and I?ve still got 8 months left on the PCP. Fortunately I?m at a position to VT in a few months (and have already ordered a replacement) and can therefore see why many in this thread are doing the same. Unless you plan on keeping the car at the end of the term, why run it after the VT point? Also, with my situation, VTing before the end of the agreement means 1 less service, no need to MOT it and probably no need to replace the tyres. |
