I hear the words, but not sure it is as it sounds. Doesn't make an fiscal sense to me. I'll contact them with the thread to confirm.

I haven't done it yet but I have contacted their CS dept and they confirmed that you can indeed return your used oil and oil filter for new ones.
I calculated it will cost between 15-25 bucks to ship the used stuff back to them with USPS flat rate priority mail.

Or you can get 2x 5qt jugs of Mobil 1 at walmart for ~25ea and then get a 12 dollar rebate per 5qts....making your total for 10qts roughly ~25 dollars

If you do the value service, do they still reset the service indicator? Asking b/c on my Audi they specifically told me just for an oil change they don't reset the indicator, which they didn't!

I get $25 + $25 - $12 = $38, plus you'll need an oil filter.

You get two rebates for 2x 5qt jugs so that's -24

Save $100?? There is no way BMW oil change parts cost $50!

And if you screw up and forget to put a new crush washer on the plug or don't reinstall it correctly or fail to lube the o-ring on the oil filter housing or any one of a dozen other requirements, you have no recourse if your car pukes oil everywhere or worse, runs dry. I'll gladly pay someone the $35 extra to do it in their garage using their tools, lift, etc., while I read car mags or watch TV in a comfy chair.
^This exactly. I will never change oil on a passenger car again (not at home at least). Its not worth all the time and hassle. Now my 2015 F150 5.0 Lariat SCrew 502a (traded for the F31dx M-Sport), was a breeze to change the oil, and was worth the effort of a DIY.

Theres no space required to do an oil change. Forgetting to put a crush washer is impossible unless you're sitting in a comfy chair reading a magazine while trying to changing the oil at the same time. Even if the crush washer gets left out, itll probably drip a little bit, but nothing to make your engine blow up. It would take alot more effort to screw something in wrong than it would to do it right. Although we all know lubricating the o ring in the oil filter housing is a good idea, your car isnt going to implode if you dont. it just makes removal next time that much harder. Disposing of the oil is easy, i drop it off at the mechanic down the road. Catch pans are like $2 at walmart so thats not a really big deal.

I understand some people for one reason or another dont like to do things themselves, but changing the oil is more basic than sitting for your drivers license test. Its nothing to be afraid of, the process is not much different from any other domestic car on the road. When in doubt, use BMW oil and filters you'll be good to go.
My biggest pet peeve for driveway DIY OC, is accidental drips of oil on the driveway from the OC job or when filling the empty oil bottles with the old oil for disposal. I know there are way to avoid those issues, but req. more time, effort and perhaps $....

$80 or less for dealer oil change is about the same cost as DIY.

LOL listening to people justify why they do or don't change there own oil. I enjoy doing it myself on all my cars and saving money and time by not taking it somewhere. Have done 1 change on my 320i now that it's past the free changes. $22 bucks for Castrol 5 qt at Wal-mart plus about 10 bucks for the filter on E-bay. About $32.

You need to find a better price on your filter!

Dealer sent me a text last week to let me know it was time for an oil change. I asked if it was still covered. He said my maintenance is out 2 months ago and it would cost $295. But! They will do a complimentary check of the car!!

Dealer quoted me $300 for the oil and engine air filter once it's out of the maintenance program.

Um, no thanks.

Up in Alberta, CANADA for my F30 if the dealer does the oil service they want $300 plus shop fees %15 and tax %5. This only includes oil change (oil and filter) does not include air filter.

If I was to purchase the BMW oil from them and oil filter to do it myself they want $140 plus taxes, plus air filter $60.

Nasty
