function of EGS/3000/nic_alt?

When I was entertaining the possibility of enabling sailing mode, I noticed that EGS/3000/nic_alt was already set to aktiv. I've coded many other things and am wondering if this value contols anything with the transmission other than sailing. I do have the Sport trans coded and the LC coded as well. Could I have made the NiC_alt value aktiv to enable those functions? Hope someone can enlighten me on the function/role of this value.
