So far I'm only getting about 24 MPG over my first 100 miles in my 328i. That's driving relatively easy (under 4500 RPMs) but with an occasional testing of the throttle
I hope that the MPG gets better. I've tried driving in Eco but don't really like the feeling of that mode, at least not around town. |

My first tank was 22.73 mpg. That's about 2 mpg up on what I would get in my former N54 135i. I have been doing a mix of highway and city driving almost completely in sport mode.

Door-to-door with new 335 going to work, 3/4 SoCal freeway, 1/4 street wiggling, 31 MPG. Coming back in warmer temperature and AC on, same route 34.5 MPG. All without Sport on, just to see how economical it could be. Wiggling around town last night to demo, give test drive to my son and going out for dinner brought the day's mileage down to 28. Pretty darn good.

I've been tracking my MPG from when new till now at 25,000 miles, and it's been pretty consistent. Also, I switched from the runflats to regular tires around 3K miles. I keep my rear pressure at 40-41psi, and front at 38psi to help with lower rolling resistance and wear. I don't accept the idea that with more miles MPG gets better. Can you explain what mechanical changes occur with higher mileage that would contribute to better MPG? |

Thanks you guys for your feedback. I was just looking about the canadian configurator and it's seem like the price difference between the 335i and the 328i is really small. I guess they want us to buy more N55

Thanks for posting your MPG's! I've been waiting for some real world figures. I'm a little disappointed, I figured you'd get better than that for your average speeds. I wonder how far off the computer is to using a calculator? I have a 2003 M3 and the computer always shows better MPG than the calculator method. I typically drive 75 MPH on the freeway, so I think I'd only get around 29 - 30 MPG on the freeway. Hopefully some more figures come in...

Great, thanks! It's good to have that info. My wife and I test drove and 328i three times in the past two weekends and are thinking of replacing her IS250 with this. Although, I was really hoping a diesel would come to the states.

Interesting. What's confusing me a bit here is whether people are using US gallons or UK gallons. It's pretty obvious the Stateside members are using US gallons but I suspect some of you on here who have your location as Europe are American expats.
Could everyone in Europe specify which gallon they're using please? Originally I was going to get the 320d but I've been recently wondering whether to get the 328i, since it doesn't cost THAT much more than the 320d and diesel in the UK is 8p/litre more than petrol. The official figures for the 320d and 328i are 60mpg and 44mpg respectively, so since real-world figures for the 320d are about 50mpg I'd assumed that the 328i would simply give 15mpg less than that; I could live with 34mpg but judging from the posts in this thread it's likely to be considerably less than that, in which case fuel and insurance would be just too expensive, not to mention being too hard to justify for a hypocritical environmentalist like myself. (All figures above are in UK gallons, and yes we buy our fuel in litres, use miles on the road and measure our cars' efficiency in mpg. Go figure. ) |
