From a quick search I see this is a contentious issue.

Basically my dealer told me I could get a media y cable that would allow me to play video on my idrive from my phone?

Now there seems to be many y cables out there but the ones with the new lightning adaptor actually say 'audio' on them, does anyone know if these allow video? Or if video playback is even possible?

My dealer sent me these part numbers but they seem to be for the old phone.

Here's his email :-

"I have just chatted to our parts department and you have two types of cable, but you can never really tell which works until you try it with your own phone at the dealership, as sometimes the phone will not connect to it .. You will need to visit a BMW dealership and bring your phone and they will try both, but the one you would prefer is the MEDIA cable to give the full potential with the video option ..

You play videos through a USB stick or a DVD.

Ahhh so the idrive can play videos loaded onto the usb drive? Great!!

You're correct. But it should be easy to code, takes about 10 mins max.
