328i xDrive M-Sport or 335i xDrive base?
I am debating whether to get a 328i xDrive M-Sport or the 335i xDrive base. The price is almost the same with my config at bmwconfig.com.
I love the exterior/interior/sport seat of the M-Sport but of course, you can't beat the 335i engine/exhaust/feel of being in a 335 etc. What would you guys pick?? Please help me decide!!! |

How about a 335 skip the leather and just go sport line is that out of your price range. Does it have to be an x drive car that is 2k of the price

I was in the same boat as you, but decided to go with the 335XI base. The MSPORT or many other accessories can be added later, but you cant change the engine. And the 335 engine is extremely sweet to hear and drive. Good luck and enjoy either way.

I know the quality of the leatherette is good but I feel that I would want the leather on the car. Also, since I'm in the northeast, xDrive is pretty much a must.

Looks like a lot of support for the 335 here. Any love for the 328 m sport?

I ordered a 328XI, as much as I wanted the extra power, I just won't need it and will never get to use it in DC. plus i like the added look of the M-sport to stand out from all the other F30's. the 28 is fast enough for my needs, plus it's not slow either!

Personally, I agree with the guy that you quoted. Skip the leather and get a 335xi sport line. I think that sport line cars look significantly better than base/no lines, due to the wheels, the silver "blade" type accents in the front lower grill, and some of the other minor details. I'd say that's much more valuable than leather (even though they're about the same price). I doubt the leather vs leatherette difference would be noticed much, even by you. Sport line compared to base is certainly noticeable though.

i was in the same boat as you. I asked myself these questions.
Do I need that much power? No, Does the noise/crap the 335 worth it?, not really...to me, because you can get a chip later on that will bring it up to 285hp/303tq on the 328i. Below is the thread link to the chip: Stock 328i: 240hp / 255tq Chip 328i: 240hp + 45hp = 285hp 255tq + 48tq = 303tq http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=709161 Is the mSport worth it? Effen YEA!!! I mean this is what makes the car stand out and look great. Sorry, but unless you are racing the damn thing you dont need a 335. Note: I know a few people are thinking well you can get a chip for the 335i...bla bla bla. Yes I know, but I am saying that if power is your concern you can get more power than stock from the 328i for way less than getting a 335i, which is 5k more. Verdict: Get the 328i mSport with extra goodies. It will probably sell better down the road as well :0) my long 10 cents, lol. Last edited by Xcution; 07-04-2012 at 02:27 AM.. |

I'm not living in the states so don't know about the taxes around there. If it's just between a 328xi with more options and a 335xi with less bling, no other strings attached (taxes, higher maintenance, etc.) I would go for the 335i. The engine is magnificent.

Its always easier to spend someone's money so I also vote 335i. Honestly, it really just depends on what you prefer...a little more performance or a little better in looks. Either way you cant go wrong, just depends on what will make you happier every day.

Skip the x drive and get the 335i m sport. You can get some Michelin Alpine 3 tires for the winter for about 900.00. Run those 4 months out of the year and save the life of your summer and or all-season tires.
Price this out and see. AWD is sort of a waste unless you live in a state like Minnesota for example that has sh@t tons of snow. In Europe, you almost never see AWD. |

I was planning to get the Wheel & Tire Protection package which the dealer is offering $ 1395 for 3 years coverage. I am now thinking of skipping this and using the money on something else instead.
The roads are pretty bad here in NYC; do you think I need this with the 3rd gen RFT? Anyone can offer their experience of damaging the wheel themselves which are the expensive part that I am worry about. |

LOL!
In Sweden 20% of the sold cars are AWD and the market share is similar in all the regions with real winter here in Europe. But I do agree that you don't NEED all wheel drive even in regions with snow. A good winter tire will take you a long way. |

I'm considering the opposite choice: 328i RWD or 335i xDrive! I am fairly sure that I was the 6MT and it isn't offered in the U.S. on the 328i with xDrive. (My only auto ever was a 5-speed in a 2000 Saab 9-5; I had the same car with a stick and it was sooo much more fun for me.) I like taking curves and I've read that the lighter 328i is more fun than the 335i on curvey roads because there's 200 lb less up front.
I live in a hilly area outside of Philadelphia and the driveway to our house is a hill. Cars with FWD and all-season tires have never made it to the top; cars with winter tires on FWD or AWD do. (I have no experience at all with RWD.) Seeing posts from Michigan and Sweden saying that winter tires on RWD will get the car through some snow is reassuring. So, how much snow does it take to make you worry about having RWD? If your household also has a FWD car, which are you more confident of in the snow? |
