Wheel corrosion issue
One of my 442's is starting to corrode around the centre cap. Car is 2 years old and has done about 30k miles. Issue is only on one wheel which is in otherwise perfect condition and has never been refurbished. Car is in for a service on Monday, should I be expecting a replacement wheel under warranty?

Yes, took mine in with one wheel corroding and it was replaced under warranty. Mine was just under 2 years old. They did want it booked in for a proper inspection whilst on the lift, to ensure it hadn't been damaged.

Thanks for the replies guys. Anyone think that there is a risk of BMW using my wheel spacers as an excuse to not replace the wheel under warranty?
(It's not like I have a jack knocking about in the garage so getting them removed will be a PITA!) |

I'm guessing you'll only get replacement if warranty is valid? Or should this be included within the 12 year manufacturer standard corrosion warranty? LINK:http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/ow...uidelines.html

Just had 3 of my 442's replaced at 15 months under warranty. No quibble.

I had 3 wheels replaced nearly 3 years ago, up to now no sign of any corrosion, maybe because I have never used acid wheel cleaners.

As most of us run a set of winter tyres/alloys for say 5 months of the year, wheels such as 442M's will therefore only be on the car for roughly 21 months during the 3 year warranty period.
By the time we see any corrosion on the wheels (hopefully we don't) the car will be out of warranty and BMW wont do anything. I guess corrosion only occurs depending on how the wheels are treated/looked after. Or is there a common issues with these.

The common issue is all diamond cut and lacquered wheels have done this since forever.
It's a flawed stupid style given a well looked after fully painted wheel could look great at 15 years old! |

My 403Ms where doing the same 5 weeks after they where refurbished. In the end my dealer refunded me for the wheels and the cash covered my aftermarket wheels. Just a crap way to try bling up a car in my opinion. As said about many cars have had the issue in the past. My dads old Focus ghia was the same. Mondeo STs where known for it too.

Mine went for its "end of warranty check" yesterday and when I picked it up they said alls ok, no problems at all.
So I took the service guy out to car and showed him my wheels, all 4 have the white worm out to about the bolts, so unmissable really. Cheeky git, turned round and said, oh, that doesn't get covered under the warranty check, only if the customer complains will they be changed. New set alloys being fitted next week then!
