More powerful M440i coming as alternative to M2?
MY16 435i starts at $48,150, adding M Sport will make it $50,750
M2 starts at $51,700 Does it make sense to have a LCI M440i with similar output as the M2 to justify the price? If the LCI is a plain 440i (with 320hp as the 340i), it will be a tough sell. |

Depends what you are looking for.
The 435i/440i is larger and offers amenities the M2 does not. It will also probably be discounted more heavily, at least in the near future. I would guess that the 440i will have the same output as the 340i |

If the formula works with the M235i and 435i (currently), I'm sure the two will coexist in the near future without issues

This reminds me of the discussions about getting a low options M3 vs a loaded up 435 GC. Everyone has a good rationale for each choice
I hope they don't do M440 and just leave it at 440 |

Two entirely different vehicles for entirely different purposes. Plus, the M2 has over 50 hp over the 440 and M3 suspension.
I think the question is "is there a reason for the 235i to exist"? They cost the same, and have the same body. If they live jointly, then that means there's space for all other models as well. 235 has more colour and interior options, xdrive option etc. m2 is more powerful and "hardcore". Cheers |

I dont see it as a replacement
the 440 is bigger and more practical, the M2 is more of a driver's car

M cars are really not the best daily drivers. They are made for fast driving on perfectly dry (and warm) roads. The 4 series is a car you can live with every day and drive in the snow/rain much more comfortably. For example my F80 M3 is only enjoyable if its at least 65 degrees out and all roads are dry. Then its LOVE.. any other day i'd rather drive a 340/440.... M2 will be the most hardcore track car BMW sells for sure.

You guys should see how tight the rear passenger door is on the 4 series GC.
I see the advantage the 4 has, that is the trunk. Rear passenger in/out was tighter in the 4 than in the 340
